Mostly looking for photography advice on this as all the nuanced shadows don't show at all. Usuing a pretty awful digi camara atm but i'm thinking i'm probably taking the photo too close, also all my lamps bulbs blew in the space of 3 days so this was taken in a photo tent in daylight. And also some comments on how the colour sceme works would be cool. Trying to get my head around colour placement atm but i seem to be the least artistically minded person i have ever met.

I'd think you didn't diffuse the lighting of your miniature. I'm not the best photographer myself yet. But you must put something like a sheet of paper in front of the lights to diffuse it and make the lighting a lot less harsh. This way minis look a lot better in my opinion and from what I've read.

Just a few tips I have discovered myself. It may be the background is too much. Sometime a background can be too bright for the mini and something darker or more neutral will help cut the light and make the mini stand out a bit. Also, try to keep the mini further from the BG so it isn't in focus too and seems more blurry and diffused; that will help keep the focus on the mini (that often requires a bigger BG, though). Other than that the amount of light is actually pretty good and if you need to go one way or the other, more light is better than less because you can always tone light down in the editing process, but you can't add more later without washing out the darker values. Plus, the mini is in focus and nice and close so you are doing great in that respect too. Nice work on the metals BTW. I like the color variation and highlights on his breastplate :)

Thanks for the tips guys. There is some blue and purple in the metallics but again, I lost a lot of the colours in the picture. Sucks because I really went all out with complimentary shadows on this one, there's red/purple in the shadows which came out really well ( for me anyway :) ). Although looking in the pictures my scratch highlights are way too big. but that's the way you learn I guess.
