this is an email i posted to my dad just now. it simply entails a letter i received here at college about our internet. the events leading up to this are yeah.... dont feel like typing it right now but if people ask il\'l post however i feel the rest of the post is rather self explanatory
\"Most of our problems to date have been a result of students using file sharing programs such as (list of programs) to upload games music and movies. this illeagle activity has put tremendous strain on the systam and congested our internet pipe thereby limiting the access to other users and slowing down the system to a crawl.\" ok heres my problem with this one. first of all how can this be the problem when it was like this in augest when there was mayb only 50 of us here? 50 people even if doing such things should not slow the system (if properly set up) all that much. also in order to do such things you must first be able to be connected to the internet of wich 80% of the time (about 70% of the time to date) we cant connect AT ALL.

1 routers or hubs are not compatable (understandable. but what if you want a LAN for just your house? not an issue in my house but some houses may want to use their own LAN for file sharing and what not.)
2 gaming systems are not compatable (also understandable)
3 current recognized antivirus products are required to be purchased by all users. in the event a user does not have a current anti virus and is infected with a virus that tries to propogate the network, that user will be billed for all associated charges and will have their network dissconnected until their PC is fixed. (this is somewhat understandable but is it not still possible for viruses to get through even with anti virus? what if i have anti virus and 1 gets through am i still charged?)
4 as canadore is a learning institustion abs this service is being provided for educational and research purposes, visiting of pornographic websites or piracy from file sharing is prohibited. violators can have their service terminated (first of all we are paying for the internet as a part of our fee and thats the ONLY reson it is provided. second if you ask me it seems as though they are litterally watching us, and what we are doing. this if you ask me is an invation of privacy. to be honest im not sure if i even want the internet if its going to be like this! feel like your being watched, and if you make 1 wrong move (playing games?) its gone....)
