Eunuchs

I\'v just watched an interesting documentary about eunuchs and was wondering what other people felt about the subject.

They had a host of people on who had undergone, or were about to undergo the surgery to have their testicles removed one as young as 20 and I thought it was quite interesting how they were thinking about things such as gender classification.

One of them had done it to control his sex drive, and others were doing it because they felt they didn\'t belong in either gender, and wanted to be A sexual.

But what I thought was weird was, even though they had taken a considerable amount of thought into it, they regretted having it done after due to bouts of depression and were going to start taking testosterone to heighten sexual urges.

One man had even been sent to prison for doing it to himself.

So I was wondering what people felt about people doing things like this to there own bodies. Do you think it is acceptable? Or that you should make do with what you have got?
At first I was pretty prejudiced and laughed thinking how stupid they sounded but then I thought it is there bodies and why should they care what others think what some people may think as self mutilation they think it will help them become better/more confident/increased self worth as people.

Personally I have no problem with it, and growing up with gay mates and being very open sexually about things means very little offends me be it gay/cross dresser/post op transgender I just see it as another way of life, but alot of my mates just think it as some sort of mental problem that the person has.

I would never get anything like this done, but it was interesting to hear why people wanted it done and different feelings towards it. What do you lot think?

Personally I think it\'s a bit bonkers to lop off your boys, and as you said most of em regretted it afterwards so I\'d say take a good long while on the shrinks couch before cuttin your balls off. But in the end I agree it\'s their bodies and if they wanna have bits lopped off then well power to em, tho insurance and govt. assistance better not be involved in paying for it or for their related visits to docs afterward thats an out of the persons pocket deal. Tho I am a firm believer in castration as punishment for multiple sex offenders. You get one strike second time ya rape or molest someone I say lop em off.

The entire thing was self funded, and hospitals (in America at least, not sure about other countries) don\'t recognise this as a \'proper\' operation so all after care etc... has to be done at home.

One of the men had even done it with a huge pair of (what looked like) pliers, which are used for cattle, and crush the tube which supplies the blood. So the testicles eventually just dries up and the body \'eats\' the dead skin.
He has a website on the net with lots of pictures of his self operation, but I\'m not going to go looking for it.

I have no problem with sex changes as that usually helps people overcome severe identity problems and I\'ve heard about extremely few cases of people changing their minds about it afterwards (at the moment I can\'t recollect any case at all to my knowledge). Usually these operations are done after lots of therapy and councelling with plenty of time to consider the choice.

I\'m not sure about the circumstances surrounding those who just want to remove their testicles, but I have a hard time seeing the same rational purpose with that action. You can be asexual and still have functioning reproductive organs (there\'s plenty of people like that). I am no expert, but I think there are other means of controlling an exaggerated sexual drive as well. At the very least, this action should be preceded by the same thorough councelling as for a sex change, and unless there are some medical or psychological issues for which this operation is an accepted treatment I don\'t think the public health care should fund it.

In the end, one has to decide over ones own body, but there are limits to what the public health care should be responsible for.

There have been some cultures where eunuchs had a big influence on politics. For example in acient egypt or in china. So at that time people were doing it to make social carrier.

Guess the biggest problem is the suddenly downfall of hormons. The only thing I wonder is why they didn\'t get a substitute and slowly go down with the hormons!? The doctors should have known the fact that the people will get depressions.

I made a practica at a pathology during my study for my current job. We got there \"man in boxes\" once a week, so changing sex is more common than I thought. First time I opened a box surley was some weird experience lol.
And I\'ll never do that to my little fella...

If a psychological trauma is the root of the gender identity problem, then the person should be treated for that before they undergo some sort of permanent surgical procedure.

Once depression or other psychiatric illness has been ruled out, then I think it is fine for them to do whatever they want with their body. In my opinion, it is not that different from plastic surgery - they too want to change their body.

It is important that they are made aware of the consequences of the hormonal changes that will occur, and that it can affect things such as muscle mass, hair growth, bone strength, etc. Hopefully the surgeons who do these procedures refer them to the appropriate endocrine specialsists as well.

i saw some of it until the girl i was working with changed the bloody channel. had to watch some other crap instead.

sounds a but like an issue that would be better dealt with counseling than surgery but what would i know? i love my balls and hope to never be separated from them. although with a family history of testicular cancer, it may yet happen :(

Hey to each their own..I happen to like the boys so they will stay put.

I know a few people with one.. most lost them to cancer.. and they are doing fine now. One guy had a fake one put in cause he didnt like the idea of only having one..said the other felt \"lonely\" :p
