Eurovision song contest

It\'s a song contest which all the european countries and several bonus ones take part in, if you win you host it the next year. Ireland got knocked out in the semi\'s, they just don\'t want to host it again cause it costs a lot.

Norway\'s entry rocked 80\'s style:D

RussiaEuropeOrNot

Yeah, somehow Russia is considered to be a part of Europe, at least by the ruling authority over here. Makes me raise my eyebrow, though, since it doesn\'t exactly make sense geographically. Well, at least the most part of it :)
Still, won\'t beat the IsraelEuropeOrNot case, if you ask me.

I reckon the UK should go out in a blaze of glory - enter a bunch of pretty boys and girls as ringers, dressed in bright, spangly costumes. 30 seconds into their bland pop-drivel, a wall of strobes should erupt, and a monstrous wall of sound should come out of the PA. The ensuing lyrics would have to involve plenty of expletives and mocking of the opposition, finishing with a good old two-fingered salute to the camera.

Oh, nudity would be useful too!

I\'d pay to see Terry Wogan\'s face....

At marine boy, oh they were probably plenty of people watching it. Judging by the things we see on TV over here ( pop star, star academy, ect... :|~) people really love those kinda dumb shows :p I just don\'t watch that much TV appart from movies, so I usually miss all those \'cultural\' shows :p
And isreal is definetly not part of europe, don\'t recall any politician ever trying to say it was, that would be a tough one to make people belive :p Russa on the other hand could very well be considered in europe geographicly, but definetly not european has far as cultur and such goes.

Hmmm...

I thought this would be easy...Continents, just land masses right. Should be easy..... Well North America certainly is, as is South America, Australasia and Africa. Europe and Asia however seem to have a siamese twin type existence and definitely \'blurge\' in the middle. Check out this site and see what I mean:

Russia as far as I know is in both Europe and Asia. The Ural mountains separate the European part from the Asian part. That was the case even when Russia was part of the Soviet Union, but for some reason, Western Europe thought it more appropriate to consider the USSR as completely Asian... lol

Turkey is also part European. The Northwestern part, where Istanbul is located, is part of Europe but the majority of the country is Asian.

Israel, however, is NOT European. I think they are in the Eurovision because of political correctness.

Ritual, Istanbul lies on both the European and Asian continents, the parts of the city separated by the Straits of Bosphorus. I believe the city advertises itself as being the only major city in the world to have that claim to fame.:)

Yeah. For a reason, eh? Although now some of the ex-Soviet states are legitimately considered to be a part of Europe.

Margo, you stated that the Russian entry was not appropriate. What do you mean by that????:)

What I mean is that the song was very plain and rather boring, compared to the other competitors with much more dynamic and vibrant performances. The song might be ok in an album, but I think it didn\'t have enough vigor for Eurovision :)

Ah, thank you, Margo. Sorry, I couldn\'t recall whether the entry was sung in Russian or English. I thought perhaps the song was off-color or contained material that might be found offensive to viewers. :)

Ah, no, no, what I meant is that it simply didn\'t quite suit the big occasion :)

Yes, of course!! Now it\'s appropriate! :D Political correctness... :]

@Marineboy
Oh yeah, that\'s probably true... Istanbul is right on the border.
