My father is a historical gamer who owned a hobby shop while I was in high school. My mother was a roleplayer while I was in grade school. Due to a Darwinian imperative, I\'ve played a lot of Mordheim.

The first shop I ever spent more than an hour in without fussing was American Eagle in Seattle (it wouldn\'t happen to still be there, would it Valander?), a place with as much filled storage space below it as floor space on the ground floor. Always something interesting, old or new games and just way too many wonderful books and figures.

Well, remembering that I AM one of the oldest here.... ;)

I got into fantasy minis, because they remind me of my youth :D when elves, ogres, fairies, hobbits, dragons, et al still roamed freely upon the earth lol

@Steelcult - That\'s a pretty snide comment from someone who IS a dinosaur lol lol

@Wiccanpony - WEll, I did say ONE of the oldest ;) You got me beat there. At least I had multicelled organisms :D

@Dragonsreach - Ah yes. I remember stalking those wooly mammoths for lunch uphill... both ways lol

My friends and I were cruising \"The Block\" at Garden Grove, CA. Saw a GW store where painted miniatures were displayed. I was hooked from the moment I saw. I was mostly fascinated with the Orks @ that time. Space marine plastics paint set was my very first purchase. Hundreds of dollars later, here I am.

remember tincasting sets?

my rich kid cousin got one for a birthday. we spent ages looking for scrap lead to cast these things. fortuantly we stopped when the lead men didn\'t hold together very well. otherwise.... well i\'d be nastier than i already am.

so then we got citadel stuff, epic then some fantasy.

still harbour a desire to melt metal and make some soldiers though. must get some pewter first!

I found an issue of White Dwarf at a chapter\'s store near where I live. Then after blowing my money on the monthly GW catalogue :p I decided to blow my money on the paints & mini\'s.
Every other compulsive spender I know wastes their money on Ciggarrettes or booze, I guess I wanted to be different. ;)

Strangely enough it was a pick-up hobby after I got out of my last full scale collection mode. For minis however, I see no end in sight. Although I do still like pissing off my school councelor when he asks what my life\'s ambition is, and I tell him it\'s retail at a hobby store.:D

Well.. With all the complaining done about GW on these forums, they seem to bring in the most new hobbyists.

@THE COFFIN DODGERS: Okay, settle down now, everyone keep your walkers in their upright and locked position. Steelcult, what did I tell you about snacking on the other painters!:bouncy:
