I REALLY REALLY like the face and text on this guy. he is just an exercise in keeping skin metal and painted armor looking as close to real as I could get.

Nice one, I got a chuckle out of the heel thing, eventhough it is a little smeared ;) He looks dirty and worn - I suppose you would expect that from him, come to think of it. Really a nice mini - 8 points from me. His Bolter and the fist grabbing it look a litle sub-par compared to the rest and the eyes freak me out :]

Oh, and by the way, I have never in my life painted a space marine :D

(Unrelated question: Can I post a link to a picture that is still in the \"waiting\"-phase? Will ratings be counted for it?)

yeah you can. There currently seems to be a major lag with pictures getting acepted. Just put the picture number in the shout box. people will look at it.

I know I will.:D

Awesome work, I actually like the metals, kinda rusty with a slightly burnished look, and I like the face in general, nice highlightin\' and he\'s got a kinda \" young Al Pacinoish\" look going.

As for stuff to work on, I\'d have to say his eyes are kinda crazy crack fiendish, with no visible pupil, and the gun could do with a bit of more detailing, instead of just being pure silver.

But then considering you were just tossing out the requisite space marine, it\'s a pretty damn good job. :D

so now that i have done the requisite space marine do I get a decoder ring? Or do I have to post a sex mini for that and all I get at the moment is a CMON brand on my shoulder? lol

Thanks for the reply. I\'ll try and fix tomorrow.

master plan....

Wow, you\'re new here Smoth, but even you should know that listening to my advice isn\'t the best idea......:D

Actually, I had this all planned out!

*Yesssss, my precioussssss, we have tricksed the foolish hobbit into dropping his mini!! Eeheeeeheee!!!*

Damn, I\'m actually really sorry to hear that, it\'s always a bitch when that happens, especially when you\'re almost done. Still, this means he\'ll be better than before! So don\'t hurt me!

You were the only person aside from mosch to reply so I figured why not? I am here to get tips and stuff. It would be rude to ask what you thought and not do it. After all I have final say of the execution of a suggestion.:D

Ehhh, dig your own grave, saves me the trouble.......:D

Just joking, thanks for taking my advice, it gives me an illusion of being useful, and I like that feeling! :D Seriously though, I think with the suggested improvements it\'ll be alot better, although I don\'t know how much the score will reflect that.

Yeah I am sure you have seen my rants about the scoring..

Let me ask you for another suggestion.. What kind of bulb doesn\'t produce that ugly yellow indoor light? I think that will decrease my chances of this happening again because I could take pictures inside.

Oh, you can probably get something like that at your local Wal-Mart, box store thingie. I went down there and bought a \"true light\" thing for about 20 bucks Canadian, and it works like a charm, with a great sunlight effect. You should also try just changing your settings on your camera. As it is, it\'s probably on auto, so it\'ll just correct for the colder light even more. I have mine set on incandescent, and it makes for a nice neutral colour balance under most lights.

You can get plane old \"true color\" 60 watt bulbs that cut the yellow. You can go all the way for an expensive OTT light, but they are actually terrible for photographs, except as an addition to regular lights just to balance color a bit.
If you are using a digital camera it probably has a \"white balance\" setting which you can put to auto or in-door. If you are using a film camera you can buy a filter for the lense at a reasonable cost.
Finally, depending on your image editor, you can reset the white balance after you take the picture, but this is really a last resort as some colors will take but others won\'t adjust the way you want.

Yeah I tried the white balance but my camera has no shutter speed controll so I cannot take pictures of dark minis. And the white balance is... discoloring. I have no manual settings aside from what light settings I have.. as in incadescent etc.

These true light bulbs, they can work without me using a whitebalance setting?

Well, they should work better than traditional bulbs anyway.
Another thing that would help is to put the mini in front of a blue-fade backdrop. Someone posted where you could print one out on a color printer. (I don\'t have it on me but can look it up) I did that and it improves the pictures considerably. Also put white things on either side (but out of the frame of the picture) to softly reflect light back from all directions onto the mini. Of course not all minis photo well on the blue background. For some I use a piece of black velvet.

Nice job... the new version looks great. Adding the pupils helped alot, imo. The new skull on the shoulder turned out really well, too.

good stuff..
