Explain some of the background and FLUFF to me please ...

Hi folks!

First and foremost, I don\'t play the game, but as with all things, I\'m interested in background, fluff, little bit of history and of course the miniatures which I have just picked up a bunch of.

What I\'m talking about is the Sisters of Battle, Repentia, Inquisition, Witch Hunters, Daemon Hunters, Ordo Malleus and Ordo Hereticus.

Seems like a pretty big list, and probably is so I\'ll understand if no one wants to really take a stab at it.

Like I said, I don\'t play the game, and I\'m trying to pick up the codexs for cheap online so I can use the paint schemes for orders and the like, but in the mean time, I\'m curious about a bit of history and the like.

I understand how the Sisters of Battle came around, but how and what is the story of the Repentia sisters? What is the deal with the Inquisition and the seperate orders (one puritanical and the other radical - think thats the right word for it).

What are the orders of the SoB and the seperate orders for the Inquisition Witch Hunters?

Better yet, what the heck is the difference between Witch Hunters and Daemon Hunters?

Large order for someone that doesn\'t play the game, sorry about that, but I am curious.

Thanks for any and all information.

From what I understand without researching the information is that Daemon Hunters are those that seek to purge out incursions within the Imperium from outside by the forces of Chaos whereas Witch Hunters are those who seek to eradicate those that are sympathetic towards Chaos and preach heresy within the Imperium.
Pretty short for such a large subject but as I said it would take a while to research all the printed background.

There is quite a bit of information about each faction (fluff and what not) on the Games Workshop Warhammer site. Plus, you can go to one of your Local Gaming Stores and ask around or read the books in there (at least the owners of those where I live didn\'t mind me doing that, when I was deciding between Warmachine and Warhammer)

Ok this is straight from the book Imperial Armour Volume two and gives a brief outline of these orders.

Shrouded in secrecy the Orders of the Emperor\'s Holy Inquisition are tasked with the duty of leading Mankind\'s struggle against its own dangerous enemies, both from outside the Imperium and from within.

The Ordo Hereticus protect Mankind against the emergence of dangerous psykers and police the Ecclesiarchy to prevent the Imperial Creed being corrupted by heresy.

The Ordo Malleus are daemon hunters and Chaos Fighters, seeking out cults of the Dark Gods which would overthrow the Emperor\'s rule.

The Ordo Xenos are alien hunters, defending Mankind against the threat of alien domination.

The Adepta Soroitas The Sisters of Battle act as the de-facto Chamber Militant of the Ordo Hereticus, but are actually under the govenorship of the Ecclesiarchy.

There is loads more to this but that is a brief outline of each faction. :D

Hmmmm....

Ordos Xenos.....:wow:
My next 40k army will be these mean, Alien Killers!:D

And that should force my freind to get his Tyrannid Hive finished! Should be realeased soon I hope...
As for the fluff question, one of the best ways is to read some of the \'Novels\' that GW produce about the specific chapters/ordos. I have not read any myself, so I cannot vouch for thier quality (as novels, that is).

Thanks for the replies, all of it has been helpful.

I think I like the idea of getting together a Daemon Hunting band (and the banner I have works just right for this).

I\'ve recently bought about thirty Warhammer/40k novels so I\'m slowly making my way through them. The one I\'m reading right now is \'Mark of Damnation\' and surprise, surprise, it is about Witch Hunters. So yeah, I\'m picking up a bit here and there.

Anyhow, oneward to more research. Thanks again.

Or

http://www.exterminatus.net

another good site and set of forums... and in fact... mine :D

Only problem with the conclave is that it seems to be populated by a lot of prople who think they understand the background, but dont. There are, however some very knowledgable peope like Precinct Omega... but he is also on my site so would answer any questions there too ;)

:innocent:

Man, I don\'t know if I could do it. It seems a little like reading a novel about the Taliban or Spanish Inquisitors. Then again, as my old English teachers would remind me, protagonists aren\'t always heroes...

Thanks, I\'ll check out those sites that were recommended. Just got in all my Inquisitor models today and am starting to put those together and the mail man is supposed to drop off all my 40k Witch Hunters and SoB\'s in the next day or so (took them long enough to get here) so I think I\'ll have plenty to work on when I get the gumption to do something about them.

As for reading the book, not too bad, Mark of Damnation leaves you rooting for the chaos damanged man, though it kind of flatens out at the end. Still though ... haven\'t been able to find a decent price on a SoB, Witch or Daemonhunters Codex so I can have the orders to refer too.

Pete has a chip on his shoulder...

...but his site is cool, too. And it\'s true that people at Ext.net are generally more tolerant of newbies with background questions.

See you on the boards - don\'t forget to say hi!
