 I have noticed ( youd have to be brain dead not to) that there is an over zealous group on this site who start slagging off G.W. at the drop of a hat .I personally am more than greatful for all the wonderful men & beasts they have provided for me to paint & sculpt over the last 30 odd years .As I have said before , and yes I will say it again , the Imagery and world of 40 K is Awesome , Space Marines ,Dreadnaughts and Kroot being some of my favourite models (especially as they are all plastic) ,...BUT hold your horses and hang onto your hats cowboy(girls),I have just seen the latest W.D. with the NEW Ven/Dread. I happened to check the price and I nearly fell over , £35 is the price .I really hope there is a lot in that box.I can remember when that would buy you a TAMIYA tank with 3-4 extra sprues and maybe some photo etched bits thrown in as well ! I think the vulgar heading says it all!!!!!!!:(

that\'s why i got into painting lotr figs.

they are more in line with what citadel produced all those years ago (except better sculpted nowadays)

there are still some gw figs i like, but the majority of the current released figs just don\'t apeal to me.

that is why a lot of other companies are springing up now more than ever.
people want what they like, they don\'t like to be told what they need.

one thing that really annoys me about GW is how they\'ve gone backwards over their plastic models.

back when i started the hobby all the models were one part/2 part and boring, hard to convert etc. then they released Regiment and Squad sets with multiple parts and bits.
recently, they\'re going backwards! they\'re releasing clip together models etc. for example i bought the Ogre Kingdoms Gnoblars boxed set, and was shocked to discover all the models are one piece, so i spent a few hours cleaning up and sticking one bit of plastic onto a base, plus the casting was awful.
its really distressing to see GW reverting to their old ways in this respect :flame:

I have bought a few GW mini\'s lately and have been very pleased with them. I simply avoid the expensive one\'s. Alot of their line simply dosent appeal to me but it\'s not something worth making a big deal over, just move on.

I think it\'s more a matter of picking a flaw and focusing/obsessing on it and thus it becomes HUGE in the eye of the beholder.

I have nothing against GW. I have a ton of their minis, and really have always liked the imagary and back story.

But, lately (last year or so) I have almost ignored GW (not on purpose) because my attention is so well focused on the \'competitors\'.

Wyrd, Hasslefree, Urban Mammoth, Heresy.

Just to name a few. There are plenty more that has garnered my attention.

I too seem to have a bit of an allegience to GW, mostly nostalgic. They really are the ones that have taken the hobby to where it is now, but don\'t blind yourself to what else is out there. If you do, you are possibly missing out on some of the best mini lines ever produced.

That\'s simply not true.

There are a number of people here however, myself included, who simply give their own, equally valuable, points of view whenever the fanboys start sounding off. There are enough fansites out there already for that sort of thing, this is a critical and cosmopolitan site that has no allegiance with any manufacturer. Anyone unthinkingly singing the praises of Reaper, Warmachine, Rackham etc would get similar treatment albeit from a different sector of the population.

On the Venerable dread itself - If it is metal I\'m not that surprised it is that price, there would be quite a lot of metal there, it would weigh a ton

On the other hand, if it is plastic, then there really isn\'t much justification for it being £10-15 more than the current plastic dread

Well it\'s only 3 quid more than the forgeworld venerable and it is more intricate (ugly as sin though I do admit! lol )

At first I didn\'t really like it but once it is posed to look more dynamic it is absolutely fantastic. Granted it takes a bit of conversion and should perhaps have been less static in the first place, but a bit of snipping and filling does it a world of good.

It\'s also very nice to have such a weighty miniature in your hands when you are working on it.

Gets a thumbs up from me.

Expansion Set,s for Dreads

Do you know what I would like to see G.W. do ? Plastic expansion sets so you can customize your original plastic model, each chapter usually has its own heroic Dread you could model. The sets could include extra armour and other scrolls and seals ,all the bits to really make them look even meaner  ,.....GOD bless .........VINCENTI

Man, that would be awesome, but I already have my expansion set, chaos parts, but, I would love to have some more conversion pieces, I love converting.

I like the new Dread but the price is steep!!

If you think the plastics are going backwards, just wait for the Eldar!

Oi

Hmm GW is here for over 30 years now.

At the begining( :p ) they weere just a bunch of some lads that wanted to play RPGs. So they created some games - I remember the MadMax style game( I think it was Dark Future), Judge Dredd and many others by the \'old good\' GW.

The only good GW now is SPecialist Games ;)

Then they came up with Warhammer and Rogue trader.

The Rulebooks contained everything at one time - rules for 40k, WFB and rpg at the same time - you paid £15 for a 300 page book!
Now you pay £15 for a rulebook for 1 army :/

Then came the minis - first they were hmm not really good minis , but they had this something , the wit and ehh a soul.

Look at the old forest goblins , or old orks...

Then GW stopped being a company \'by gamers for gamers\'

White Dwarf that was previously almost only devoted to RPGs tuerned 180degrees and affixed itself on minis...

The minis started to be more and more devoid of this wit and kind of soul - they lack the character now IMHO.

New forest goblins are pure evil - look at them they aren\'t funny:/ They are grim and kinda sad.

Also I don\'t like GW messing up the fluff...

The best example - \'The war of the beard\' (correct me if i\'m wrong please) When dwarves fought with Wood Elves...

It was about the wood the dwarves needed for their warmachines, tools and to fuel their steam machines...

In the new codex the whole affair is negated- Dwarves never used any wood at all !

So why the war with wood elves?

Also look ath GW\'s forum - people who tried to criticise anything got their posts deleted sooner than they could say Games Workshop...

Not being able to take criticism is a sign of igmorance and lack of respect :/

I think that GW is fixed on making money - what is not good for them... (I have read thaht their sales have dropped about 20% this year just in the US) and their stock market value is as far as I know the lowest since 5 years now.

They sell plastic minis worth about 1/2 £ ( space amrine commander plastic kit is indeed 1 mini) for like 15£ or more - this is ridiculous...

But what can we do...

Criticism of gamers is left without any response...

they don\'t care - GW stopped being a bunch of enthusiasts and started to be a Company.

Their sales and copyright policies are sometimes sick:/

We have to get through this I think.
They want to sell their products...
nothing more...

This is my opinion and all my complaints towards GW...

The world changes and we can\'t do anything about it ;)
The only way is to buy all the copyrights to all the fluff and minis and symbols ;)
We would have to gather some money hehee
