Fabius Bile WIP

The painting bug hit hard this long weekend and I recently got a request for a commission on Fabius Bile. So far this guy has been extremely fun to paint. Here\'s where he stands at this moment.

I\'m using some good colors from my P3 range along with the new washes from Games Workshop. I plan on painting the armor either a sickly green or a greasy black. Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed.

Have a good one!

He\'s coming along nice. I really like the colors. You applied them very smooth. Keep it up!

I would go with a green color for the armor, personally. :)

Thanks :)

I do like the idea of the green armor, it\'d make it really \"pop\". I\'m thinking of adding a few more highlights to the skin cape and then calling it good as well as one or two more washes to bring it together. I want the flesh to keep that red, sickly sheen to it.

It\'s a very fun model to paint so far though, it\'s incredibly different.

I have that same fellow in the on deck circle. Local GS had him in the discount rack and not till I got him home did I realize what a cool mini it was!! I like all the little vials and gizmo\'s. Looking forward to your take on him!

Thanks :), I\'ll get a little bit done on him tonight.

I had never heard of this mini until I was asked to paint him. I got to look at some good concept art of the guy:

The guy is pretty wicked and appears to be a cross of Hanible and Doc. Oc. from Spiderman. He\'s going to be dark, grissly and greasy.

I\'m still wondering how I should base him though, I was thinking about a ruined city base, but perhaps not. No idea, any ideas would be of help!

Started the basecoat tonight on the armor. Only a few layers, but it\'s enough to give me an idea how well the Olive color by P3 will look. I like it a lot but I have about six more light layers to go before the basecoat is complete.

To create unity to the flesh tones, I\'ll mix in a little muddy red color to do the shading to the armor. I like it so far.

I just realized I missed a glaring portion of the chest for the flesh colors. For some reason or another I forgot about it! Oh well. I\'ll get it tomorrow, my hands are too tired from paintball to paint as well as I\'d like to this evening.

I have a Jes Goodwin concept art book and I believe there\'s a sketch or two of Fabius in it. If I can dig it up I\'ll snap a photo for you, might find it interesting / inspiring. :)

Got a little more done on Fabius tonight. At first I hadn\'t planned on painting but after looking through the forums I caught the itch and went for it.

I\'m still applying the Olive basecoat to the armor and taking my time doing so. It\'s much better to use a lot of thin layers then globbing on one or two. This skin cloak is nearly done I\'d say, I\'m pretty happy with that gruesome piece of fashion.

C&C is greatly appreciated :)

starting to see it now, had my doubts with the talk of green armour, but I think it\'ll look great

Liking the look of the fleshy cloak areas. They\'re coming along nicely.

The Olive looks ok cant really tell to much at the minute. Keeping my eyes on this though.

A thought for the base, maybe some sort of surgeon style floor (say medical deck or something of the sort) just a pristine white tiled floor.

This guy looks awesome!! One of my favorite characters from the 40k universe.

The cloak looks really cool, nice choice of colours and blending too. The armour is going to look great with the red shading, excellent idea, will you go smooth or make it look kind of blochy?

I think that olive green would look good used as some of the shading on bronze/gold of the armour trims, if indeed they will be bronze/gold.

Great stuff!

Thanks for the comments :)

For the armor, I plan on going smooth as soon as I complete the basecoat nicely. Considering it\'s the color green over a white primer it\'ll take some time, but the end result will look very nice. I plan on using some battle-worn markings on the legs of the armor; thanks for the inspiration Manus!

I do plan on making his trim a gold color, but it will have a \"corrupted\' look. P3 makes an excellent gold called \"Blighted Gold\" which looks great for Chaos Space Marines.

On a great note, my father revealed an early birthday present to me. I came home from work early today with an incredibly bad migraine and slept for over eight hours. Finally after it began to subside (thanks to my prescription) I woke up, went to my model \"station\" and found this: all the tools I need to make photography of minis a blast! I got the correct lights, backdrop, and white lighting assistants now! I\'m incredibly excited. My parents love my passion for this hobby and I love them for encouraging me. I\'m pumped for this now.

I\'ll try to make some more updates on this guy tonight, but my eyes are crap when I\'m getting over a migraine, I may just take some pics of my \"studio\" though :)

That\'s a really nice gift. Even better that your parents are so encouraging. :)

I haven\'t managed to find that Jes Goodwin book (It\'s called The Gothic and the Eldrich, I think.) I remember it suffered some water damage while moving, a few years ago. I hope I didn\'t throw it out.

Well I got up the nerve to paint a little tonight, the throbbing in my head went down considerably.

First, here\'s some pics of my photo stuff I recieved as an early present:

I\'m lucky have gotten these. My father said they wanted me to have it as they\'ve seen my painting pick up. They figured it\'d really help me learn more with the photography aspect. I love them for their encouragement.

I nearly completed the basecoat, finally, for the green armor and will start doing highlights and shading tomorrow. After that, I\'ll be on the home stretch it seems. I just need to finish up his mechanical arms rigging and his left arm that holds the pistol. From there on out, it\'s all just detail work.

I think the picture turned out excellent. I\'m still learning the correct photo aspects, but it\'s miles better than what I had going before. Cheers!

No worries! Thanks anyways Matt!

Will do :), I was just excited to get out the new stuff and shoot with it. I\'ll take a little more time to do so tonight.

Thanks for the comments though :)

Thanks :)

I completed the armor\'s basecoat tonight and worked on the highlighting and shading portions. Lastly, I added some red and brown inks to the overall figure to make it flow nicer. I think it came out rather well.

(Sorry for the two shots like this, I\'m still trying to figure out how to focus directly on the mini without going off focus in some spots.)

I am pleased to see how the greens and flesh tones are working together. I actually mixed a little brownish red color in with a darker green to add the shading. I think it worked well.
Fabius8.jpg

I just need to finish up on the rest of the mini\'s features such as the face, left arm and the monstrosity of a mechanical backpack. I\'ll work on the face tomorrow, I\'m plan on making it very pale in complexion. I also plan on getting a start on the many tubes and hoses going all over his armor, not sure yet how I\'ll approach those.

Any C&C is greatly appreciated :) Have a good one!

I recently got back from a canoe trip with the girl friend. I made some progess on Mr. Bile and am nearly done with him. I\'m just getting around to painting the metal its and bits on him. I\'m wondering how I should do the Chaos insignia on him. I used Blighted Gold (P3), but I may highlight it with Shining Gold to add a little more depth.
Fabius10.jpg

Fabius9.jpg

Overall I think the guy is looking great. I am thinking about adding highlights to all the parts though, I\'m not quite sure yet.

I\'m slowly getting the hang of the camera work but am having a little bit of trouble getting elements such as his staff to stay in focus with out blurring.

Any C&C is greatly appreciated! Have a good one :)
