Facebook friends wanted!!

mickc22

Granddad!
my clever dick kids keep taking the pee \'cause my friends count is still only in double figures

so I thought if I could get as many of you as would care to, take up the \"gauntlet\" so to speak, maybe I could get into treble figures

to avoid confusion if everyone added a note, like, \"it\'s so&so from CMoN\"

thanks for your assistance in this manner

I left facebook like a year ago. I got thoroughly sick of all the application invitations. Ignore one, and fifty more pop up.

They can get annoying but you can now configure to ignore all invites from the worst offenders..

Mick, While I would be happy to be counted amongst your friends and acquaintances in person, I regret to say I will not be using or joining into Facebook.

It has a very poor (and deservedly so) reputation regarding external Data Mining as well as \"Piggy Back\" searches, and is still under constant inspection and investigation by Child Protection/Law Enforcement agencies in both the US and Europe.

I gotta say, I much prefer LJ over FB because, well, LJ doesn\'t randomly spam me with the latest inane quiz-thing. Otoh, a lot of people I would never have heard from again or had trouble keeping in touch with are on FB; although I do wonder how much it matters because beyond saying \"Wow!! You\'re still alive!\", I don\'t really do much about it. I\'m pretty picky about what I\'ve put on FB (no tirades about my bosses/company on public view with my name clearly attached, thanks!) and I\'ve done my damnest to up the security. But, what the hey. Yeah, I\'ve friended you!

Granddad!
thanks for replying guys & gals,
yeah I know the invites can be annoying, tell me about it, my sister is the worst one for it!
Although I\'d joined FB quite a while ago, I resisted going on it for ages for that very reason
so I fully respect and understand anyones decision not to
As for invites, I accept the ones I want to do (not that much) and ignore the rest(which is the majority)
If I took part in all the invites I\'d never be off the thing

what\'s LJ?

Live Journal - it\'s basically a weblog site. I\'ve a link to mine in my sig. I\'ve rigged things so that if I post on LJ and it\'s a public post (meaning anyone may read it), then it gets imported into my FB notes. Which is nice because then a whole slice of people I know have the potential to read my LJ posts without ever having to go near LJ. The one problem with LJ is that unless you know a lot of people who\'re already on it, making new friends is hard going unless you use your real name as your screen name, and the only person I know who does that is George RR Martin. Joining LJ groups for hobbies and interests is one way to meet people, tho, as is looking for people with similar interests to you.

Facebook are getting spit roasted at the moment for letting under 16s join and not deleting their accounts. By law you have to be over 16 to join a networking site like facebook and even though people have put their date of births as under 16 facebook havent got rid of them.

I also maintain the polocy of not adding anyone i don\'t know, its just sensible.

For the time being our painting group has a Facebook spot. It seemed like the easiest thing to do at the time, and if people are already on there, they don\'t need to sign up to yet another website.

What can I say, I\'ve met up with people I only came across on Facebook and it all went well. But then I\'ve met up with people from other internet sites too and that\'s not been a bad experience either.
But yeah, I get fed up of invites to gang wars and such.

Tim, I feel so special (sniff!)

I just assaniated about a 100 odd friends, I was friends with people from work who hardly say hello in the corridor!!!

It\'s quality that counts, I missed out on deleting Tim ;)

TIP, if someone asks to be your friend and you don\'t want to be, but don\'t want to offend them. Accept, then delete (there is no notification when you are deleted off someone\'s profile!). EVIL!:innocent:

I don\'t care much about Facebook, but you\'re my \'friend\' now.
I think I\'ve not updated for the last 8 months.
And, for the record, you have more \'friends\' than I do... doesn\'t keep me up at night
