Factory project

Hi everyone,
this is my first attempt at a terrain ever, so any comments or tips are welcomed. I don't play Warhammer or any other miniatures game, so this is just for fun. But I'm thinking about buying some Harlequins (Warhammer 40k) later simply because I like them. So I guess I'll keep them in this factory. And now about the project itself.

Right now it's just a factory. I don't know what it's supposed to produce, so any tips are appreciated. Anyway I think of it as some kind of abandoned steampunkish factory.
Since I can't draw very well I made these skeches in Google Skechup (without details of course).

So you roughly have my idea, and here comes my work so far (let's be honest I just started)

front wall with door (possibly for some kind of train)

inside (don't worry I used the tape only for these first photos)

I won't have any time at weekend so I'll probably continue next tuesday with some basic works. As I said before any help, tips or comments are appreciated. Thank you

Maybe research some pictures on victorian workhouses and the machinary they used, this might offer some steampunkish inspiration for your factory!!!

I was supposed to study econometrics in the morning, but I didn't like that so I added some details and made 2 of 3 big windows. I made some holes by mistake, do you think I can use green stuff to fill it? I dont know what else, I have gypsum at home but I hate working with it.

I searched for some images of old/abandoned factories and I now have a better idea where this is going.

I think doing some research is really gona help ya. Also try www.devianart.com. I found that a lot of photography artist will take some pics that can really hep for modeling.

Just to give you some ideas, I do believe this guy is one of our fellow CMON guys.

He has some tutorials. Since you are doing a good bit of work with the foam, just cover it with plaster to give you some good texture, maybe use a bit of white glue. try it on a piece of scrap foam. I have some other tutorials I found on doing brick walls, when i get home ill post them for you!!

Hi everyone,
I made some progress today. The back wall is the only one that is somewhat done, other walls need more painting and stuff. (These photos are yellower than in reality.)

Interior still needs a lot of work, but I'm quite happy with exterior (meaning walls and roof, some terrain-stuff will come later).

I think I finally figured out what was bothering me about the bricks. I'd looked earlier, but had nothing although it bothered me too. But, there's no mortar. Maybe some thin lines of gray down the lines on the bricks, then another wash to age them is what is needed. Especially on the broken ends, there there could be some mortar sticking to the tops of the bricks as well. Breaking up that solid red I think would help things.

I think very thin lines, not even constant thickness nor even constant. Break the line here and there, thicker in some places, but thin overall. It is an old building.

Sorry I can't suggest any better color than "gray"!
