Failcast true value

I'd heard that the chaplain was finecast too, I think it was just an assumption that GW hadn't done a limited run single plastic before and somewhere it got put onto a rumour site.
Well according to those who bought the set (and from quite a few vids on youtube(the buypainted channel has a painting tutorial on the ltd ed figure), it is plastic.
No idea why to keep it really limited. As far as I know most of the cost is developing and the mouldmaking for it. If you then make it limited edition you are basically wasting resources.

I think the major problem of GW is that they tried to find resin which is quite cheap and can be cast in their old metal molds. Imagine all these molds to throw away by changing your material and process...
But moulds wear away anyway, so you have to throw them away after their use. With the mould they used for failcast they may need a new one every 100 models or so (or judging from the pieces of the mould that can be found in the blisters, even every 10)

Has finecast ever gotten 'better'? Or is it still a dismal failure.
from what I've seen in the shops they are still about the same (--> so not buying any for now).

edit:
my biggest problem with finecast are not the oft mentioned air bubbles, they are part of the model being in resin, but the half-formed parts, where you either sculpt the whole part(and I really suck at sculpting) back OR try replacing a f*cast until you get one that's good (can be just as hard to do).
Also no ide why, but the resin they used is much softer than the resin I'm used to (in KD/SP/McVey minis for example), so that annoys me a bit too.

My opinion: No better than when first released.
Dismal failure??? Well GW Target Audience who know no better are still buying it, but as someone who has worked with resin materials before........Not worth the effort or expenditure.

To me, the bubbles indicate they are trying to do it on the cheap, and they have urine poor quality control. I've bought resin from small one man shops that had no bubbles, and I know those guys are working on a thinner margin than GW - if a failcast piece doesn't sell, GW will make money on other lines - if a small one man shop fails to sell product, they go hungry.

I had Grey Matter Figures cast some of my sculpts for me, never got a single one with bubbles anywhere on it. In fact on some of the castings I even struggled to see a mold line
