now first up don\'t take offence anyone. it\'s a freeish world and you should be able to do anything you can afford. (i think i just found my new sig)

i have noticed a few featured auctions that are.... doomed. they are priced at what i believe to be silly prices.
i thought these people might be just mad
and deluded. but then of course it came to me.
attention! they make a doomed auction (free!) and pay CMON a buck to feature it. they get heaps of votes. good for CMON and their score.
is this the case for real?

i should point out that my voting for a auctioned mini is a bit harsher. mostly because it should be painted well. (slightly irrational but there you go.)
would the minis vote be higher or different at the end of the day?

Never thought of it that way... hm, kind of makes sense in a sad sort of way. Still, I always thought they were just reaaally confident people (you know, they see one of haley\'s go for $300 so they figure they can get $100 for their piece of...uh...pewter).

i saw a feature auction and thought it was an unrealistic price , but i looked at the auction and it was for an army, sometimes people just post a pic of one mini featured from the e bay auction but it is actually just part of an army

Yes I too have checked out some of those silly looking auctions only to realize they were selling like 40 or so miniatures as opposed to just the one in the picture.

Sometimes the first bid will simply be overpriced, and I don\'t think this is on purpose. Sometimes it is the person trying to use their name to sell an average mini, and they might succeed. Sometimes it is someone trying to get their times worth by trying to sell it at a higher than market price. Unfortunatey they often fail.

As far as auctions go, I can\'t help but pity the people who are trying to get less than $10 an hour on a miniature. Many a times I\'ll see a mini that was painted in 10 hours or so selling for around or less than $50. Anyway I\'m ranting... I guess I never will try to sell anything of mine, I spend way too much time on them, and they are too precious to me...

I have seen a few auction prices that are stupidly high for the quality of work offered! If the painting is top notch, then the price is probably fair enough for the time and effort (and sheer skill) involved.

I really can\'t see anyone featuring a mini just to for more votes though. I mean that would be really stupid. Firstly Ebay is NOT free to list an item, so a couple of quid/few dollars there, then you\'ve got to waste a CMON credit on top of that! I just can\'t see anyone being quite so petty and stupid to spend money just to try and get a few extra votes!

hmm i thought it was free if it didn\'t sell.

anyway some people have that money.

i have also noticed that often the prices aren\'t for just the one model etc. but these aren\'t the ones i was looking at.

mayby the prices are right. just not enough interested people see it in the one week.

I kinda wish people would start out....smaller. As a painter-seller, Im a bit worried about what the inflation might do to the market. Without meaning offense or pointing fingers, some relatively average stuff is being listed at very high starting bids. Sometimes they sell (!) sometimes they do not.

I think new sellers or average painters (one must be able to be honest with oneself to make this judgement call) should start out...um....lower. I started auctioning figs almost 3 years ago, and was always listing them with a 1 cent opening bid, or maybe 10 bucks tops. I would sometimes only get 25-30 bucks a fig, and that\'s all it was worth because my work was still developing and I had a long way to go.

Some folks are sorta trying to leap frog and go to the high prices without \"putting in the time\". It might hurt the ebay market a bit if buyers get kinda tired of it.

Time\'ll tell I guess.
