I\'ve been thinking about heavily modding my army, and I think it would actually turn out really well provided I can find the right bits, but I\'m sort of terrified of screwing it all up and ipso-facto being out a ton of time and money. How do you guys get past that? Most of the people here do some pretty amazing conversions, and I\'ve done a couple small scale conversions, but this would extend into cutting into and radically modifying large scale pieces like monoliths. So, I\'m a bit nervous.

I would start small if you dont mod much now, the guys on here have been modding since they were in nappys (some still are I believelol)

In the words of Yoda - Do.

I\'d say just jump in - if you are happy with the results, who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

And if they look REALLY bad, you can always just say that they\'ve beaten back a contagion in the group! lol

Start small and working up to bigger, more involved projects is generally the way to go and it\'s what I would recommend.

Although conversion is not inherently that hard it can be difficult starting out to get things to look the way you want (e.g. so that you can\'t tell that it\'s not the way the mini might have been produced).

It\'s very easy to get discouraged if something goes wrong so unless you have buckets of drive and confidence - which I would guess you don\'t, based on you asking this in the first place - you could easily end up with a big mess that won\'t get finished. Same thing has happened to many of us, even with projects that weren\'t that complex!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I guess I\'m just a little spooked about screwing up my monoliths, since they would be a pain to replace (I hate building them). I think I\'m going to go for it though. It\'s my army, and I want it to stand out a bit. Besides, what I\'m doing isn\'t that much different from the repairs/augmentations I\'ve done on minis and models for a while now.

That said, does anyone know where I can get plastic grates? I need something thin that I can cut, like plasticard, only with a pattern of holes in it similar to a chain link fence. Heck, even a scale model fence would work. I also need something I can use as piping, like the kind you would find on industrial/ork stuff. Any help or links would be appreciated.

Actually, IMO the best place to get the fence like material you are asking about would be Home Depot - see if they have a window screen patching kit and use the screen from that. If not get a smallish roll of fiberglass window screen and you will have enough screening to last you from now till doomsday.

As for the piping if you have a local Model Railroad shop look for Evergreen Scale Models tubing - comes in a variety of shapes and sizes - http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/
