Okay, I haven't put too many auctions on CMON but I've done a few and I must say I really like this feature. However, I'd really like to get more information on it. I know auctions come up on the home page and when you're voting, but do they appear anywhere else? Are only "active" auctions featured? Or do old closed ones pop up from time to time?
I have a pic I submitted a day or two ago and the status is Waiting. Okay, no worries, I know sometimes the mods get busy and can't approve stuff right away. But I also featured my auction and according to the stats, it's been shown over 3000 times and clicked on 24 times. How can it be clicked on when it hasn't even been approved yet?
Of course, I've always been under the assumption that submissions are kept in a holding tank until approved for mass consumption.
I also understand the reason for that process and fully support it because it protects the integrity of CMON and makes sure someone doesn't slide something in that's inappropriate.
If the featured auction system works the way I think I'm seeing, then I have to admit I'm of two minds about that. If the auction can be featured without approval, on one hand that's cool because my auction is ticking away and this is valuable advertising, so at least I'm not waiting for it to show up. But if the submission is still waiting, that means no one can vote on it. In one sense I could say hey, don't approve it, let it run with a consistent score and maybe I'll get more clicks. OTOH if waiting is limiting its appearance because it can't be voted on, then I'm not so sure about that. Also, one never knows how votes are going to roll and it may tank in the scores, reducing clicks on the auction as well.
Anyway, I just noticed that today and was wondering about more info on the auction feature. It's not like details on the voting system that have to be kept under wraps so people don't figure out how to beat it - at least I wouldn't think so.
