February - The "I Loathe This Model" Contest

I have finally decided to paint a WarMachine figure I bought and built and never liked , I find it lacking in character and movement and its detail is all over the place. I have never been keen to paint it so this is a great reason.
I am thinking of doing some green stuff modifying or slight conversion if that's cool or is it that I have to make a figure paint as good as I can without changing it.

not sure to be honest. I think it's from a game called five rings,.. or five armies,..,.. or Legend of the five rings,.. or something to that effect anyways. I believe the it's from the " Dark Naga" army.

Yeah it is. And a massive solid cast. As I said, I maybe disqualified for it, it's actually not a bad mini. Just one I thought I had lost. I paint along anyway for fun.

I have been laid low by a Skaven Red Pox these last days, so painting has been scarce. But i have managed to airbrush on the red basecoat and a single highlight.

Bought it at Battlefield Berlin, a very good source for miniatures. But it's been ages...I think I bought it around 2002-2003. As far as I know it's not in their stocklist anymore.
I still got a "darker" version of the Monkey King, also from MSB Toys, still unpainted, but missing it's tail. Here is a CMON entry of it: http://www.coolminiornot.com/125618
If you are interested I'm willing to sell it, but remember, tail missing.

Here is my entry.. Jade from Reaper. I have attempted her twice so far, trying to do transparent clothing. Needless to say she's had a lot of Simple Green baths.. Hopefully 3rd time is the charm with her.

Cleaned up the red, finished the leather straps, and the white cloak. I deliberately left the shading on the cloak shallow and indistinct, as I am going to pencil in the Griffin sigil - I'll work out highlights and shadows properly after the freehand is in.

Okay. But this Monkey King is a rather big miniature. It stands at about 5cm tall! With the next photos I'll post I put something in for scale comparison. Have you tried searching for animal sets? I have seen some with very realistic small monkeys.

I have done some searches for just monkey minis, but haven't come up with anything good. Which ones are you thinking of? My Google-fu may not be as strong as your.

Yea, there are a few monkeys there, but they\re just okay. No something to make a center-piece mini out of. Thanks of the link though Zab.

Someone has a really detailed monkeyking. I've seen it, but I cant remember where. Journey to the west boardgame maybe?

The mini I have selected, if no one has an issue with it, will be the braveheart (one of my personal top ten movies) mini from andrea. I don't actually loathe the model, but i'm loathe to paint it. Does that count? His nose is kinda flattened cause I dropped him a while back.
