Feral Orks: modeling and tournaments

Recently I decided to start a feral orks army, but I ran into a little problem. After seeing the price of boar boyz and figuring that I need about 40 of them (30 for fast attack and 10 for an HQ) I\'ve been puzzled as to alrernatives.

One idea was to use wolf boyz as the fast attack and regular boar boyz as the HQ. BUT, I don\'t know if RTT would accept them. My arguement is that there\'s no official models, so its not like I\'m breaking that rule. I also run into the problem of trying to making the goblins look more \"orkish.\"

I\'m also running short on ideas of how to make good madboyz.

Any and all hints/advice would be gratefully appreciated on this topic.

Have fun,

As far as \"tournament legal\" models are concerned for GW sponsored tournaments, all that matters is that they are GW models... I\'ve seen skeletons with lasguns used as Imperial Guard...

As for Madboyz, just try using the ball and socket joint of the plastic Boyz and tilting the head further to the side than you normally would, to give that \"crazy look.\" Another idea would be to actually give them pupils in their eyes, instead of the usual solid red.

Yeah, I was going to make a Feral ork mob (just so\'s I could use a Squiggoth) But it is a good idea to use wolves as fast attack, because it\'ll give a bit more background. As for madboyz, I\'d suggest posing them mor dynamically. Arms in the air, standing on one leg, even hitting one\'s own head are all sure signs of going crazy... and I should know. :p

hold on...

did the idea of 100 madboyz ever occur to anyone? you can cram them into 1,000 points easy, and they are all at S5 with a pigdok. modelling these guys is a pretty easy thing if you just pose them wildly, holding varieties of strange weapons.

you even have room for anti-tank capacity (the only thing that needs to be balanced, not a whole lot can survive that many orks in cc.), such as a warboss with power-klaw, or even nobs wielding power-klaws. an easy way to model these might involve larger axes than normal, nothing \'techy\'.

hell, even throw in some rokkits directed to anti-aircraft for those imperial bastards at tourneys that allow VDR.

just make sure all the bits are GW and its all totally legal!

As for converting Goblins into Orks, hold yer modelling knife!

You could use the Boarboy-legs on the Fantasy Orcish command frame! Orc players should have \'Oooge number of these, and I\'m sure you can get them at a reasonable price :)

Actually, El Peublo I believe the problem he has is not with the legs, it\'s the number of models and the price. A goblin wolf riders set of 10 costs $30 and a boarboyz box has only about 5 riders for the same amount. If you wanted 40, it\'d make more sense to buy the wolf set rather than the boarboyz.

Even buying the boars on their own, you\'d still need to buy the riders, which is cheaper in the sets than as bitz anyways. So for larger models that need large numbers, it makes sense to try and substitute something that would cost less, uless you already have a vast collection to draw from.
