If using fiber optic cable like THIS
what kind of light source should be used - LEDs, normal light bulp or what?

Considering that just below the fiber optics there are LED\'s then i\'d suggest the LED\'s as they were possible placed on the same page for a reason.

LED have been replacing normal lightbulbs since they generate a lot less heat and you can more easily change the color by swapping the LED instead of trying to dye the ends of the fibers or adding a gel/sheet of colored celophane (sp?) in between.

veggiemanuk is quite correct. LED\'s are the way to go. Just remember to always curve th ewires, and never have any corners, or you will suffer server DB loss, and the light will also bounce back on it\'s self.

Also depending on what power source you are connecting to, a small resistor may need to be bought.

These are pretty easy to use. They are the flat little batteries found in watches and such. The voltages are so low that you probably wont need an resistors and some last a very long time.

LEDs also have much lower power requirements than bulbs, another reason for them taking over. For full-scale lights it\'s something like a 50th (or better) of the power draw of an incandescent bulb; don\'t think it\'s quite that pronounced at this scale but still, the longer the batteries last the better.

This is corners in the fibreoptic filaments right? What\'s DB loss?

what you\'d actually get is a fracture in the fibre,
You can also get dB loss from curving the fibre too tightly.
