Fiery redhead with big.. guns

HI Y'all, anther submission from me today, I finally got around to paint a CMON's miniature; I pretty original concept, entertaining to paint and to watch.
I wanted to represent a commando style intrusion, coming to kick some serious asses, both funny and scary, hehe.
I liked the base idea, turned out it wasn't easy to build, a bitch to paint, a bitch to photograph and impossible to crop, oh well...
Anyway, pretty satisfied with the result, was a fun and (relatively) quick project, I hope she fares a bit better in the arena than the last one.

I'm always happy to hear your comment.

I think the photos make it tricky to comment mate, though the most recent troll ones in your WIP thread are a lot better. Nice skin as usual. Bra perhaps a little close in colour/effect to the binoculars, could do to be softened a touch (though I appreciate it's under a lot of strain!). The metals are good. Perhaps a slightly stronger white spot on the goggle lenses? The base is nice too, though it looks a touch muddy & she's not quite sunk down into it a mm, a little perched on top at the moment.

Most noticable is how rough the surface of the mini looks. Did you overprime a touch?

A strong 7 I think, potential to push for an 8 if the pics were sharper :)

Cheers, B.

I really like the way her eyes are looking towards something. Gives a bit of tension.

Great gritty base, it really sets of the whole mood.

I really like the boobs, but that goes without saying.

Overall a very solid piece. I'd say an 8.

Thanks Vike it really helps the motivation to get some positive feedback, other wise it'd be hard to know if I'm doing any good, especially with the depressing scores I'm getting.

And thanks for taking the time BPI, I always see things like that late in the process of painting/editing and I'm too lazy to fix it and start over, I think ''Maybe no one will notice'' but in the end It's probably the things I get judged on mostly.
I dunno what went wrong in the prepping but I never got her smooth enough, I did strip her once because of that but the second try wasn't that much better; not sure if it's the surface or the primer, I normally don't have this problem.
Also I fixed the old camera and I'm gonna use it exclusively now, and hopefully learn to take better picture :)

Don't feel knocked back by it GreenOne :) I don't know about anybody else but I think the step between 7 & 8 is the one I have most trouble with in voting. It's often a tricky call. I know I could vote twice & make my score a 7.5 but at the moment I tend to save my second vote so that if I happen upon a mini I've scored before I can tweak it if I think I've been too harsh or generous.

Now get on with that lovely smooth Troll!

Cheers, B.

Don't worry about it, it's a psychological thing, the 7 mark is a threshold to me, and getting 6.9 is just so short of it, lol.
Gotta keep trying.

My first thought, the top photo (the most important because you only have one chance to make a first impression) is a horrid angle; the cigar either looks like she has got the ugliest chin known to man or it's a funny banded beard (which is really odd on a chick). You probably should have put an upshot on top to clearly show that's a cigar in her mouth. I think the arrangement of the photos is costing you at least one point.

nice work GO, your style is definitely recognizable as your own; love that muted palate, and im really liking the base you did here. i agree that the composition of your collage could use some work in terms of angle. some changes could boost your score across the 7 mark. i cant help but notice you have some over-painting in spots. i find that dark-lining and similar techniques (washes in cracks w/ neutral tones) followed by touch-ups of each areas colors can help with that.

Thanks for the input guys, I haven't tought about the collage thing; maybe cause I know in advance it's a cigar and not her chin ;)
Hey Funny, long time no see:)
I'm curious as to where the said overpainting is, maybe I missed a spot...

I'm not keen on reposted so I'll take it for what it is, happy it's so much my painting itself that's in question, maybe someday I'll make it there.

hummm, i thought i saw some on the back of the calf, shoulder and elbow, but it must've been my work monitor playing tricks on me, looks much cleaner on my home rig. =)
i would still recommend a lil work around the top of the boots and the arm band with some additional contrast to emphasize the edges. ironically, though, one of the things i appreciate most about your painting is that you don't rely on dark-lining for your transitions (a habit that i regretfully overuse), and achive a far more realistic effect as a result. hummm something for me to think about......
great work on the iris' too.

Like it! Especially the hair and the goggles, they're really shaping this mini. The base is fantastic too

Thanks a Luna, glad you like it.

And thanks for the submission comment Funny, means a lot to me.

I see the overpainting on the elbow, this one is quite blatant, maybe I was rushing a bit near the end :(
