Sorry, just wanted to get that off my chest....

I hate painting filigree, I make so many mistakes when i\'m doing it I could have painted another figure twice whilst correcting it:mad:

by filligree what do you mean?
the little raised bits on the rackham stuff of freehand painting lines?

i kinda like doing fine lines freehand.
when i get it right anyway :D

No the raised stuff. I\'m painting the Harbinger of the fallen and she has it on her breast plate and knickers. Never been good at it, but I\'m also getting used to new paint brushes (W+N\'s) which release the paint alot more readily and hold alot more than the synthetics I\'m used to.

Hmmm...

I an experimenting at the moment with a new (to me) technique of polishing the entire figure prior to painting. Painting the figure in the normal way and then removing the paint from the filigree areas to reveal to polished pewter underneath. So far, it seems to be working quite well but don\'t hold your breath to see any finished results for about a year.

How are you removing the paint, or are you masking it in some way?

Sounds like a good technique to tryon a figure with a silver filigree though!

You can just wipe off the majority with your finger as you go, if you take too much off you can re-blend whilst it\'s still wet. When you have done a section and let it dry any missed areas can be cleaned up with a scalpel blade. I have also been experimenting with polishing finished sections with a small piece of chamois leather, this has the effect of increasing highlights and adds a degree of depth to the figure. It probably also counts as cheating:D

I am literally in the middle of moving house. \'D Day\' is next Monday, so everything is in boxes etc. (Some of the boxes were packed up over two years ago!) There will also be a few other priorities to sort out I suppose before I can get painting again.

I have raised stuff in my knickers on occasion, too. I\'m don\'t usually hate it, though.

Sad part is I think I\'ve added nearly 300 posts in the last week, and I don\'t think a single one of them was actually useful in any way...other than perhaps causing the occasional chuckle...I need to slow down...freak status should be reserved for the few...

While there is still a shred of the original topic left. Does anyone have any ideas on how to paint freehand filigree well???

I have tried to on one or two occasions, but found after a while my eyeballs tend to start watering and tying themselves into interesting and unusual shapes.
