Yes, it\'s used on a lot of sculpts. There are roughly three types of sculpting compounds in use: Polymer clays, rubbery epoxy putties (Green stuff) and hard epoxy putties (Milliput). I\'d recommend trying one of each to find out what works best for you. This is different from sculptor to sculptor.
Fimo is suited for making miniatures and quite popular with a lot of French sculptors . Check the www.creafigs.com site for examples. It\'s a lot softer than GS, takes details well and is easier to create smooth lines. It has to be hardened by baking in an oven. Not all colours have the same qualities. Some recommended colours are: Champagne, Flesh, Light Grey, and Green.
On the other hand. It\'s less sticky than GS so it\'s harder to add to a surface (make conversions more difficult) and it\'s less strong (I\'d not use it for gaming). And it is not suited for the average mouldmaking as you find in professional companies. Not without the master not surviving that is. You either have to use a special vulcanising mould material (softer, cures at lower temperature and more expensive), RTV rubber moulds or a company specialised at this (Historex).
