Older Rumor... I think it´s correct... Not 100% sure if they were handed out in the US last Weekend, but there were less Finalists for sure (5... maybe 7) and it would make perfect sense to hand out less of those then lots of the older Pins...

I have read somewhere that finalist medals were given out at the US GD.
Which reminds me, I really must sort out my entry!

Cool. I dont think I will enter this year. It costs too much. Last year I scored a ride up with a mate, he probably wont go this year. I enjoyed meeting people last year and it was fun. But it was my first event. Next year.

I'm planning on redoing the base of the dreadnought I entered last year (was never happy with it). I was going to skip this year but with the change of venue and a mate of my brothers saying he'd like to go (and drive) me and my brother have tickets. Depending on how it is this year if I go next year or not.
Still having got a bunch of pins that was a step up from an easily damaged piece of paper.
A medal, not too shabby, but I'm sorry its not enough to tempt me back. £30 plus Travel for a "one trick pony show" after 15 years of GD's, enough is enough for me.

It would e improving the event itself, not the awards that would get me going back to GDs

I would agree with the thought that the event needs improving. After going just once I think the event in itself would not draw me. The time I went they had Relic on show, as a big Talisman boardgame fan that and Golden Demon and meeting internet buddies was my main reason for attending with my secondary reason being to see the artists at work and have a chat. The gaming side, yes I would have liked to have played a demo game but with hordes of screaming kids everywhere I was put off. They need to set aside areas for beginners only and bookable tables where you arrange a definate game within a time slot. Ideal for meeting forum friends and having a game. I enjoyed getting lots of photos and reporting the event as well I must say. Although I did bodge the uploading of such vast numbers of photos to my blog with resizing -- doh (I have that covered for next time).
I will attend again, but not this year. I need some time to paint something nice and I dont feel in the zone just yet. Helping a mate with his WarMachine painting might help back into it more.

Personally more tempted to try and get to euromilitaire though think it might clash with the nfl at wembley, plus I need to actually not be in work long enough to actually get round to painting something.
I went to GD and had a great time looking at some awesome miniatures. And I got to meet several really great painters that I have always wanted to meet. Like (Nadja) from Russia, Spanish Team Member Octavia Fernandez, Ben "White Rabbit" Komets and Michael Bartels "Zaphod Beeblebrox" and Marike Reimer.
And Aaron Lovejoy "olliekickflip" decided to come this year which was so cool and Caleb Wissenbak, Dave Taylor (check out his blog for some awesome stuff http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com/ , Will Hahn, Kent Plumb, and many more.
Same politics and controversy but in the end I saw very cool minis and hung out with old friends and some new ones and that was a blast.

So how was this years compared to previous years shows? I'm trying to figger out if the doubling ticket price and online sales only is worth it to try going next year. I almost always had fun in Chicago (the year in hall 'D' kinda sucked, too small of a space), even with the kids, fanbois, general noise, and WAAAAAGGGHHHHHH ing! every five seconds, they seemed to have something 'fun' and 'interesting' going on most of the time.
Did they do a 'pub' quiz again this year? I think that was one of the highlights for me last year, just to see the pictures of the model poses that they got those poor, poor, shipping guys in to :smile-big:
Was the space large enough to maybe open up the doors to more folks? I think that limiting to a thousand tickets sounded; elitist? That and charging full price for runt herder and kiddie tickets.
Will it take GW another YEAR! to post pictures of this year's Games Day to their website? I mean! Come ON! Way to promote! Oh, and by the way see if you spot yours truly, second year I've made it in the photos, and this year it's a much clearer shot! :smile-big:

It was very similar format to previous years. Same events etc. It did have a smaller feel to it because of less people and a smaller hall. They were really trying to get the forgeworld lines to move more quickly as well as the store. By afternoon there was not really a line for either, so I went right through and bought what I wanted. I would have liked to get a shirt but those sold out right away. For the conversion contest/model building and terrain building the lines were very long you would have to get in line about an hour early to do the event. they had a demo table that was really cool showing everything from basing to airbrushing.
They did keep the Waaaaghs to a minimum. The organization was far better and they had the BBQ the night before at HQ with the pub quiz and cool prizes and an ice cream truck. We hung out until they closed it down.
Over all a think they made an effort to step it up this year and I hope they will continue to look at the good and the bad and improve the event.
