Finally did it!

Well, after a year+ of saying I was going to stop using GW brushes for everything, I FINALLY did it and ordered new, real brushes. Just one day last week, it clicked that these brushes suck, and I\'m sick of struggling with it, so the mini I\'m working on right now will officially be my last ever with \"GW fine detail\".

I\'m excited, thought I\'d ramble about it...

watch out world! :D

excellent news Eric

maybe the new brushes will confuse you and you\'ll have trouble painting anything half way decent! Not!

Congratulations! Not sure exactly how much of an improvement they can make for you, but there really IS something different to the feel of holding a really good brush as opposed to a cheap sh*t one.

haha, you may joke, but I can be a bit supersticious, so I\'m worried!

Tony, yeah, I actually had the same thing happen when I tried a different brush early last year, just annoyed me because it was too soft for my tastes and couldn\'t get the paint where I wanted it, after a little research and help from Margo, I found some good brushes that are supposed to be a lot stiffer for my tastes.

Dauber, yeah, I don\'t think it\'ll change my painting much, but I think it should speed me up some, since I won\'t have to take the same time with corrections, and such...

But yeah, the final straw was opening a new brush to get started on a mini, and finding it turning into a \"V\" within about 4 strokes, which sucked!

My W&N Series 7 are on the FedEx vehicle for delivery as of right now :) I\'ll be getting brand new size 1, 0 and 2/0. I prefer the stiffer brushes, also... hopefully these will be springy enough. The Vallejo brushes that come with the \"case\" of 72 are way way too soft and flexible. Could never get them to paint where I wanted.

Ooooo! Yeah! Thanks, James. After you said that, I forced a refresh and up popped the new avatar. Very cool, Eric!

The avatar is just a little sneek peek for now, unfortunately a full look is top secret until officially released :D

Which should be tomorrow, lol

would you believe I forget? I\'m going to first try the same one Margo uses (which she liked considering I told her I\'d send her them should I decide I didn\'t like them...) But after hearing her review and recomendation I figured I\'d give them a shot.

Not series 7, which I didn\'t like (alhtough I might consider their \"miniature\" brushes which are supposed to be stiffer)

Well there goes my last excuse for not changing brushes. I figured if Eric can get in the top 10 with GW brushes I could get in the top 500 with my $4 brushes. Oh well I guess I will have to go buy some real brushes now too.

DaVinci, perhaps?

I have one W&N series 7, which is quite good for most things, but I have another that is my favourite brush. It\'s a German brand called Habico and is about half the price compared to W&N 7. I\'ve had it for a year and a half and it\'s still as good as when I bought it! I use the W&N for base coats and larger areas and the Habico for all the detail work and all the final highlights.

Crap.
If he was that far above me before, think about what changing brushes will do.
Next thing he\'ll tell us he\'s going to stop using craft paints and buy some Vallejos.

hehe, the problem is that GW brushes aren\'t even very cheep!

Jeff, yeah, I know you\'ve been bugging me, and it really was time, now that my wyrd minis are done, and I can relax until the new ones arrive, I think I may actually burn some brushes :D

Save them to mix colors. That\'s really all the \"red handled\" brushes are good for. Well, that, and dry brushing terrain. :D

I\'m with Vince - we\'re doomed. ;)

It\'s funny, but this thread just made me realize that while I used to use crap paints, I\'ve always used quality brushes! I might have used whatever brushes my fiancee had lying around when I first started painting, but I pretty quickly went to an art supply store and picked up some good brushes. I was just too cheap to buy good paints! lol
