Find A Mini Painter

Hi All!

After offering my services (ooer) in this thread http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=7152 Ive started to put somehting together.

For those that are interested, the idea is to create a website to locate miniature painters, wargamers and roleplayers across the world. In it\'s simplest form its a database which can be searched, initially by location, but eventually by games played, minatures painted etc.

I hope to have version 0.1 up and running for some tests/feedback in about a week, which will allow the setup of a basic profile, and primitive searching. In the meantime im looking for suggestions and input. Im slowly building a list of things that will be added into the profile (such as game systems used, top 3 miniature manufacturers), which ill post as soon as possible.

Also, if there are any photoshop wizards out there who want to make a contribution, a logo would be useful. Im calling it \"Painter Locator\" at the moment (Find A Mini Painter seems a bit long, or is it just me?) though if anyone has any suggestions theyd be greatly appreciated, as this title implies that only painters should register, whereas id like to encompass the hobby as a whole.

Even if you cant think of anything to suggest right now, just a quick post with a \"yes this is a good idea\" or \"not interested\" would be appreciated, just so i can gague the level of interest.

In the mean time, happy painting!

Not sure if I understand how this would work, but I think it would be a great link for painted Mini buyers to look and see who\'s style fits what they want painted :) please keep me updated on this :)

God bless you, ilynx2k4!
I thought that the idea had died, and thought nothing more of it.
I\'m glad you weren\'t inactive. :)

I don\'t know about sugestions, my idea was pretty simple, so these new concepts of yours seem very cool.

I\'ll wait for the first version, and maybe then I can give some input.

Thank you!

Hi Stef.

Thanks very much!

I like the coolminiornot logo, nice bright and colourful. I havent decided upon a colour scheme yet.

As a thought, ill take a selection of logos, and have the scripts select a random one each time the page is loaded. It means that we can have a few people showcasing their computer art talents. Feedback on this?

For sizes, lets say 350px wide by 100px high, which is the size of the CMoN logo at the top of this forum. Theres no \"offical\" name for the site yet, so use use \"painter Locator\" for the time being.

Again, thanks very much for your help!

Thanks for the links TAB! And the body paint idea... well that could be another project :D

Actually its the reason I was trying to think of another name for the site other than \"Miniature Painter Locator\", so it encompases all aspects of the hobby including painting, modelling, wargaming and RPG. For a start though the name will do.

Anyway, its 3am here and i should get some sleep :|~ ....

though five more minutes work on it wont hurt i suppose....

Maybe ten.... :D

Hi all!

Couple of in progress screenshots to look at

Edit A Profile

Hopefully im on the right lines. I hope to add lots more \"favourites\" (currently im thinking of \"Favourite Wargaming Rule System\" and \"Favourite RPG System\"). None of the fields on this form are mandatory, though I may make at least \"Country\" a required field on sign-up. After all the idea is to locate people!

Also still to come is the option to upload your own photo. Currently the profiles are searchable by country and keyword, but again this will be expanded.

Oh, the box right hand side will be used for the \"CMoN featured auction\" feature.

As always, feeback and comments are welcomed. Im not really a website designer, im a website developer so id appreciate some feedback on the colour scheme.

Catch y\'all later

Hi,

do you know http://www.minisculptor.com/ ? It\'s something similar for minaiture sculptors, though more for professionals than amateurs. I\'ve no idea what the status of the site is but perhaps it\'s an idea to look around for inspiration and ideas for your site.

Looking at your screen shots you enter your date of birth the english way (wooo!), but it shows in the profile year first? Is this deliberate cos it completely threw me at first!

Looks good so far

nice idea- it\'s a great way to see whats happening in the world around you

as for names, i like the idea of findaminipainter.com (famp for short). it\'s not as if coolminiornot.com is short!

@Fizl : Nope thats not the intention and thanks for pointing it out!

@minimaker : Thanks for the link! I havent delved too much but the site you suggested seems to have the same principles. My intention though it to bring wargarmers, roleplayers, miniature painters and sculptors all together in one place (and i should think most people delve into two, three or four of those). That way uou can not only loo for a local painter to do some commisions, but find, for example, a warhammer opponent in your area looking for a game, or a DM for your D&D games.

@freakinacage : hmm.. FaMP is a great suggestion. Im still trying to think of a name that encompasses all sides of the hobby, but I\'ll go with that

@stef : Hope you get this before you start working! Can you use FaMP as the website title, either abbreviated or in its full form.
