FINISHED barbarian sculpt and a few WIPs

The pics are not as good as I would like to have availible but they are as good as I can provide until I can afford a digital camera with a macro lense. I took all of these with my scanner, so the lighting really does not show all the detail as well as I would like, but it is CERTAINLY better than nothing.

I just wanted to share these with you guys. I posted them over at the reaper forum and did not get very much feedback so I figured I migth fare a bit better here. All crits and comments are welcome.

The faces of the two dwarf WIPs and the Barbarian WIP is Brown stuff, the rest of the sculpts are in tamiya.

The first barbarian dude, the finished one measures exactly 38 mm from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head. The barbr WIP measures exactly 36 mm from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. The Ab dwarf measures 24 mm, while the Ab-less dwarf measures 24 mm as well.

I am unsure which direction to take the dwarves in at this point. I want them to be unique, so I went for a youthful appearance for both, I wish I could get better images of the their faces because I am most proud of those. I am thinking dwarf barbarians.... What do you guys think??

Those are very cool sculpts but arms of the barbarian are a bit too short IMO. Shield, face, muscles all of this looks great-just those arms. Keep up great work!

hmmmm fresh eyes catch it all..... DO the arms really look too short??? That is the down fal of working from start to finish with no feedback...... I will certainly try to correct that in future sculpts.... I measured ou tthe armaure to the exact length of the hips thinking that would be the correct length. They are bent a bit, maybe that made them look short??/ Hmmm.

Thanks fro the feedback though.

While it could just be the angle I would tend to agree that the arms look a little short. Most peoples arms reach almost half way down the thigh. While his sword arm looks bent at the elbow his shield arm looks straight as do the arms of the WIP under him. Still have to say these are good looking sculpts though.

I agree about the arms. Your hand should sit mid thigh when your standing up. And I wouldnt worry about copy right. the way these guys are dressed is very unique. I love the savage look of these guys. let me know when theyre done I\'ll have one of each. Ive wanted to do a barbarian army for ages but Gredier went bust before I could get the minis and these ones kick but. Love em. Did I say I love em yet, well I do.

Just reread your post. I thought they were all barbarians. Barbarian dwarves would be good. You kind of get sick of looking at balls with beards so any diversion from the norm would be a good thing.

You have a good grasp of using the medium (better than me at the mo) but you just need to take a little step back and study proportions a little more. If i was you i would redo the arms...it really would make all the difference. all the best. ;)

thanks everyone for all the encouragement.

reverend..... I would be lieing if I said that Kev white\'s Celtos models were nto a HUGE influence on me but I cannot say that I know the model you say mine looks like. Any resemblance is purely unintentional as the last I would want to do rip off my favorite sculptor. Emulate his awesome style a bit yes, but I would never mean to rip him off. thanks for the compliment though.

I am now in the process of totally re-sculpting the arms on both of the barbarian models..... the Dwarves are coming along very well, with one almost finished and the other close behind. I expect to have updated pics up within two days.

I also hope to be posting some pics of two Elf WIPs I have going.... One will be a dual weilding wild Elf barbarian, and the other will be a dual weilding dark Elf \" warrior \". ;)

Anyway thanks again everyone! :D:D

Barbaric Splendor! I really like these Sigil, they were worth the wait to see them! Of course, now we need one with an axe, so quit sculpting wimpy dwarves and elves and churn out another.... lol

Hey Dwarves are not wimpy, elves yes, but not dwarves. :D lol

Nice work Sigil, good to see the in-progress pics too. The anatomy is very good (better than many historical miniatures!) and the detail looks great.

Tamiya putty eh? Just goes to show you can produce quality work with it

Thanks for the all the compliments.....

More emotion in the faces..... Yes, I agree. I am still kind of new to this, so I have really just been getting comfortable producing accurately built faces in a neutral posture. I think I am comfortable enough to start experiment ing with expression.

Primeval.... AAaaAAAaaAAaaHhaaahAAaRRRRrrr :flame:

Dare thee to insult the honor of the dwarves eh? Well now this will not do.

Just kidding man. Thanks for the compliment I though you would like these. The dwarves I am doing really just look like miniature barbarians, and the elves.... well they look like elves at this point but I plan to sculpt some wild looking savavge elves to compliment my other barbarians.

Einion. Many thanks for that compliment, it made my day. My goal is to produce miniatures as accurately modeled as possible in 35 mm scale. Bad proportions and fudgy details bother like nothing else... I only own three minis because of this, and those I only have for height scale reference. :)
