Finishing a plinth

i have a little problem, i have pretty much finished a mini for toronto GD. it is on a plinth, a wood one. based conected, and painted.

but the wood has yet to get the wood finish.

what do i do?

can i put the wood finish on it or will the fumes or something go up onto the model and destroy it?

please remember that its for GD so any type of damage would suck.

some varnishes can strip paint i would take the mini off or failing that try and put a plastic bag over as much of the mini as you can and mask the rest with good quality masking tape, oh an be careful

I\'d second the suggestion to remove the model, even it is a large pain to do. Why take a chance? Plus it makes it easier to finish the plinth (it will probably be quite hard to get a finished look around the models base if you leave it on) so you\'ll regain some of the lost time and effort.

You can feel free to use any varnish, polyurethane, wax, lacquer.

Don\'t neglect sanding and finishing the wood if you go with the clear coats, they will magnify any flaws.

If the grain isn\'t real nice you can cover it up with regular paint or metallic paint or something. A nice steel, chrome or silver plinth would probably stand out from the rest, although, I don\'t think I\'d recommend \"blinging\" it up with a gold base or anything.

Don\'t forget the primer if you go with the paint.

thanks yeah from now on ill finish the plinth befor i build the base on it and put the mini on :/
