Just turning the starting handle on my translating device..

Originally posted by freakinacageworking in a french restaurant, i\'ve picked up a few things the only thing i can put here is (forgive my spelling):
tu a(s) la visage comme un(e) cul de conchon

Finn carefully feeds Mr inacage\'s phrase in to the delicate machinery and.......

\'you a(s) the face as un(e) ass of conchon\'

Great!!!

What\'s a cochon anybody??lol

Hmmm, lets see - something sutable to be translated - need a good movie line here I think - got it - John Wayne from \"Big Jake\" -
You can call me Jacob, you can call me Jake, you can call me a dirty rotten son of a bitch, but if you ever call me daddy again I\'m gonna finish this fight.

Ok, that gives me, in French:

Vous pouvez m\'appeler Jacob, vous pouvez m\'appeler Jake, vous pouvez m\'appeler un fils pourri sale d\'une garce, mais si vous m\'appelez jamais encore papa que je vais finir cette bagarre.

In German:

Sie können mich Jacob rufen, Sie können mich Jake rufen, Sie können mich einem schmutzigen verfaulten Sohn einer Hündin rufen, aber wenn Sie mich wieder je Vati rufen, bin ich gonna-Ende dieser Kampf.

That could be funny???? That could have started world war 3???

Tell me what out put you would like....

MUHAHAHAHAHHAAAA REVEREND THIS IS MY TIME NOW !!! lollollollollollol:D

Ok finn instead of \"rufen\" say \"nennen\"; instead of Hündin (femal dog :) ) say Hure ( bitch ) ; instead of \" bin ich gonna-Ende dieser Kampf.\" werde Ich diesem Kampf ein schnelles Ende beschehren\"

Believe me I`m German :) PLEASE post more in german it is fantastic to see how not native german speaking people try it .... nearly so funny how it is for reverend to read my pooooooooooor english :)
lollol:rolleyes::D

Sorry DELTADOG, nothing would give me more pleasure than amusing you with my crap German, but I am afraid that despite the best efforts of the British educational system the only German I can recall is, \'Ich bin ein binliner\' and one of those words isn\'t even German!lol

Ahem. «Tu as un visage comme un cul de cochon», which would be «Your face looks like a pig\'s ass». :D

All this reminds me of an old (apocryphal?) anecdote about one of the first automatic translators, English to Chinese and back. The inaugural use, presided by the governor of California, was «Out of sight, Out of mind», which produced two ideograms. As nobody could read those, it was fed back through the machine and was re-translated as «Invisible Idiot».
lol

Same quote in Portuguese please.

By the power of my magic translator...

\"size of a cow\"!!!

Bugger! Sorry (soz) about that!

I have entered the appropriate phrase, I have set phasers on \'Portugese\' and we get:

Você pode me chamar o Jacob, você pode me chamar Jake, você pode me chamar um filho podre sujo de uma cadela, mas se você já me chama novamente papai que eu vou terminar esta briga.

HaHa! It\'s all totally obvious now isn\'t it?

Hehe... Except for the fact that that\'s not \"Portuguese\" it\'s not badly translated... :D

That\'s Brazilian Portuguese which is quite diferent. lol

It would translate to:

\"Podes chamar-me Jacob, podes chamar-me Jake, podes chamar-me filho de uma cabra, mas se alguma vez me voltas a chamar papá acabo a luta.\"

Notes:

\"luta\" literally means \"fight\", but depending on the phrase it can also mean \"strugle\" and other meanings, another suitable word would be \"briga\".

\"filho de uma cabra\" is the polite version of the translation (the one that would appear on subtitles), I will not post the true translation as it is one of the most offensive swear words of the language.... :innocent:

Try translating the following into English:

\"Três vezes do leme as mãos ergueu,
Três vezes ao leme as reprendeu,
E disse no fim de tremer três vezes:
«Aqui ao leme sou mais do que eu:
Sou um povo que quer o mar que é teu;
E mais que o mostrengo, que me a alma teme
E roda nas trevas do fim do mundo,
Manda a vontade, que me ata ao leme,
De El-Rei D. João Segundo!\"

(Brownie points for anyone who translates it):p:D

Your wish is my command.
By the power of cut-price supermarket software...Voila!!!

\"Three times of the rudder the hands raised,
Three times to the rudder the reprendeu,
And he/she said in the end of shaking three times:
\"Here to the rudder I am more than I:
I am a people that wants the sea that is yours;
And more than the mostrengo, that me the soul fears
And wheel in the darkness of the end of the world,
He/she orders the will to get tied up to the rudder,
Of El-king D. João Segundo! \"

I suppose you are going to tell me that\'s a load of crap now aren\'t you?lol

Actually it\'s quite accurate, specially considering it\'s written in a slightly archaic way... ;)

It\'s the last part of a poem by Fernando Pessoa.

Another wonderful translation

Saw this for stickers in a store today:
«Juste peau et bâton»
for «Just peel and stick». Word for word, the translation is \"correct\", but taken as a whole it came out as «Just skin and wooden stick»...

Obviously that software has been sold more widely to Chinese industry than we suspected. :D

Guten Tag Deltadog

Die Software wird L&H Power Translator Pro 7.0 gerufen. Es wird von L&H, Lernout und Hauspie \'The Speech und Language Company\' gemacht. Ich kaufte es von Lidl\'s Supermarkt für ungefähr 20 Euro. Ich habe es benutzt, diesen Pfahl von English zu German zu übersetzen, damit Sie sehen können, wie gut, oder schlecht es ist.

Hello Deltadog

The software is called L&H Power Translator Pro 7.0. It is made by L&H, Lernout and Hauspie \'The Speech and Language Company\'. I purchased it from Lidl\'s supermarket for about 20 Euro. I have used it to translate this post from English to German so you can see how good, or bad it is.

L&H? They went Bancrupt 2 (3?) years ago after some dodgy (very very dodgy!) dealings. Before that they were considered to be among the best if not the best company of speech products. The management wanted to get rich a bit to fast though... I think that after the bancrupty was declared some firms aquired the rights to the already existing software and are now selling them at bottom prices. It\'s probably not the best you can find but it\'s definitely value for money, 4 years ago it would even have been top quality... Strange how things change...

That\'s a shame...

I know I have joked about the \'crapness\' of the software but that is largely due to GIGO (Garbage in garbage out). In actual fact I have used it to access sites that I would otherwise find incomprehensible. As I say, it cost me about $15/Euro and, at that price, I am certainly not complaining.:flip:

Better look in the \"cheapass baskets\" of Toys-stores and such ;)
