With a number of CMoN members living in SoCal I\'m sending my thoughts and hopes that everything is okay. A couple of SoCal locals I know are Wiccanpony and Lizcam.

Thanks for the thoughts, Roger. It\'s been an interesting couple of weeks. Up here in the high desert the winds have been the worst I\'ve seen in 16 years. A week age there was that accident where 8 big rigs crashed and a bunch of people died because of the wind. With little ground cover here the dust gets kicked up and it\'s so bad it\'s like driving in fog, the kind were you can\'t see the car if front of you.
Then there are the fires. We\'re in a serious drought and have been for a couple of years. The natural vegitation in bone dry. Combine those two things and it\'s a recipe for hugh fires. We always have \"fire season\" here about this time of year but it is really bad this year. The next thing that will happen is it will start to rain nad then mud season starts. With the natural veggitation burned away there is nothing to hold the soil on the hills. The hills tend to end up in the back yards of rich people.
We\'re all ok and will survive. This is normal for us, just on the extreme edge of normal.

I wasn\'t sure how close you are to the fires. I noticed on a map that you\'re not that far north of Riverside which I think has been mentioned in the reports.

I heard the Santa Anna\'s were doing 90 mph. I think that\'s hurricane force. Man, mix that with a fire and you got trouble.

Yup. Hurricane force about explains it. Small cars are actually blown off the freeway. And you can\'t see the mountains at all or even the hills behind Romsamond form in Rosamond itself. Even when the wind dies down the dust hangs in the air. I have a feeling the \"cold\" going around here at work is acstually Valley Fever. The conditions are right for it.
The fires are really bad. Especially down in the San Diego area. It would be nice to hear from Wiccanpony, Olliekickflip and the others down there to make sure they\'re ok.

Uhhh, yeah, we are on fire. Half a million people have been evacuated so far. The fire is burning above me and below me and to the East of me. Last I heard there were 1000 homes confirmed burned down...it came right through the residential areas. After all that, the fire is still 0% contained! Both freeways going north and south from my house were closed on and off as the fire jumped the 10 lane highways at will. The freeway that goes East and West that is just north of me is the cut off point for the evacuations in north county. It hit Poway, Rancho Bernardo (probably the hardest hit), Rancho Santa Fe, Valley Center, Escondido and is still raging right now as it heads up into Fallbrook and Palomar Mountain (you know the place with the observatory). I think in total there were 8 seperate fires burning at any one time in San Diego alone. Now there is a fire burning in South Bay. It started by the boarder, blew over to Chula Vista (where the band Payable on Death is from), then turned around and headed back east towards Spring Valley and East county. Fire is literally everywhere! The winds are so strong that they just cant stop any of them. The threat to my area is minimal right now (I couldn\'t say that even 6 hours ago). We have all our clothes and pictures packed up and ready to head out if we are evacuated. Now thats just San Diego...Los Angeles is on fire too and the flames are up in the mountains there burning up the resort towns such as Alpine. Any ways, it is a bad bad deal for everyone involved. It is hard to believe it but this fire is much much worse than the last one in 03. Just crazy! When I went out today, I looked around in a circle and there was smoke in every direction. The good thing is, I dont personally know of anyone who had lost their homes however our forums ( www.pacificmarauders.com) out hear have been pretty quiet so I cant be sure. Anyways, thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers...we need em! There are a ton of people that have lost everything.

Well, I do know that Jason aka Evil Bones used to live in Rancho Bernardo but now lives in Japan so unless there is a fire over there, he is fine!

The Witch fire and Rice fires are right above me to the north however a finger of the fire is headed to the East and South which is where I work! Go figure!
The Haris fire is south of me but kind of heading east now.

Hey Liz, from what I heard Escondido got hit pretty hard as well. Your bro is most likely evacuated. I\'m sure you will hear from him soon. Right now it feels like the calm between the storms. Fire is still all around but kind of out in the countryside. It is still burning out of control but I think the city is feeling a little relief. Not sure how LA is doing though. The winds have calmed down though so hopefully the firefighters will get a handle on it soon.
