Hey all!

Recently bought this model on Ebay:

http://www.wargamesworkshop.co.uk/Images%5CProductImages%5CDRMA021.jpg

And holy crap! First off it\'s smaller than I imagined and also it\'s super detailed!

Any advice on painting something like this? I\'m used to the normal GW stuff which can be detailed but not as much as these.

Thanks in advance!

SLOWLY!!!

Do one area at a time - I suggest the metallic areas first :p

Also - your head-smashing avatar is deeply disturbing - fantastic :)

The level of detail on Rackham minis can seem pretty daunting at first, but once you\'ve painted a few you\'ll get used to it. This one is in fact not that difficult compared to some of their other sculpts. ;)

Don\'t let the details scare you off. Take it easy and do larger areas first and save the small details for last, when everything surrounding them is done. Usually, when having painted clothes, furs, skin etc., I re-prime the small details with a dark brown or a dark grey to define the details. Then paint the details in whatever way you want and leave just a thin line of the dark base colour.

It might seem very difficult the first time (and maybe the second, third or so...), but eventually you\'ll get used to the Rackham style.

Yeah right, if yoy are a painting God maybe lol, but Rackham\'s minis are very cool I have loads I just panic every time I try and paint one. Just take it slowly with thin paints and very steady hands and I am sure you will get along just fine.

I started painting some Thalions, finished them, looked at them and put them straight into a acetone bath :(

I haven even got round to undercoating my box of Masterworks yet...

to be honest i prefer rackham\'s sculpts to gw nowadays.

there may be plenty of detail but most of them aren\'t cluttered which unfortuanately most gw figs nowadays are.

take your time and they will become fairly easy to paint after a while.
just be carefull with the thin ankles, i\'m sick and tired of having to pin feet back on. (mainly because i\'m a clumsy heavy handed git!)

That\'s a question. What do i do with the bases?

Leave em bare and pin em on or use the slotta and then GS around it or even detail the base?

best advise for ideas on basing and paint schemes is to have a browse on this very site..
I Too am recently starting these models and find the detail a nice change if a little crazy at times..
3 things I\'ve found..
1. Careful when cleaning metal is very soft and easy to damage parts or lose detail.
2. Use thin paints and build layers up slowly..That way any mistakes don\'t block the fine details.
3. Get a very fine brush for careful highlighting.. Find a final highlight with fine brush can really help define the detailed areas/..
GOOD LUCK

I usually remove the tab and pin the mini onto the base. That way I can raise the mini a bit by adding rocks or other scenic stuff to the base. Be careful, though, with thin ankles and such that easily snaps off when removing the tab!
