First foray into Painting

I recently acquired a copy of Space Hulk (3rd ed.) for an excellent deal and I have decided to try my hand at some painting. Here are some pics, please let me read your critiques. I know the hand is silver at the moment but I will fix that. I have submitted the photo as is for now for a baseline. I hope to improve and submit the future paint jobs for more mentoring.

Strong start, nice brush control and i see some gentle blends on the red there too ;) Just keep painting and you'll keep improving. A WIP thread is a great way to track your projects and get ongoing advice! Welcome :)

Thanks. I know I lost detail on one of the legs but I was pretty happy with a first paint. I will start a WIP thread for my Space Hulk Thanks!

A solid attempt IMO, paint for the most part appears smooth and not too thick, some minor critiques, and bear in mind much of this improves with time/ practice,

1. The orange highlights are a bit of a jump up from the red, look into glazing or juicing to have a more gradual blend, you can also help by using a few layers with a red + orange mix adding progressively more orange up towards the highest points until it is just orange

2. Some parts seem less highlighted than others, possibly because of the red areas, there is a fair bit of contrast there but for example the one symbol on the shoulder pad looks less contrasted, likewise the gold symbols could do with a highlight and/or a slight wash on the wings

3. This ones minor but on the vents on the back you can see some red showing

Again, these are things that improve with practice and you are off to a good start, trying to give some constructive criticism for you :)

Yes, I want to get a much smoother blend of colours on the next models.

I have touched up the gold and added some bright gold highlights.
