First Log and first mini

Hello everyone. I\'ve been a long time lurker and admirer of everyone\'s work on this forum. I\'m starting a log that will hopefully help me grow as a mini painter. This is my first ever mini that I\'m working on for my chaos army. There are a couple of mistakes with the prep, but I\'ll learn something after each mini that I paint. Be gentle. Going for a dark kind of Brom look.

I have been painting for a year right now and i dont even come close to that.

looks very good if you want people to give hints the pictures need to be a little bigger (so all the faults show up). As a first mini this is top draw

The dark background is great for setting mood, but it makes it very hard to really see all the details of the mini, since it\'s colors are dark and subdued to begin with. I\'d suggest snapping your next batch of pics with a lighter background.

Started working on his tentacle, and shield area. I\'ll get some brighter pics this weekend. Took these pretty quick this morning. If anyone has any questions, please don\'t hesitate to ask. I\'m a complete newbie among the pros, but I\'ll do my best to answer.

could ypou give me the colours you have used on the metal as it great and always have trouble with metal myself

Sure thing.

Basecoat: Thin layers of 50/50 mix of boltgun metal and black.
Wash: Dervin mud. Let dry then wash with black.
A few layers of the 50/50 boltgun mix drybrushed.
A light drybrush of bolt gun in the raised areas.
Then highlight the raised edges with boltgun, then chainmail, and then mithiril on only the xtreme edges. Pay attention to the form of the area.
Then apply a watered down glaze of black to smooth out the areas. I\'ve also been applying various glazes and washes of sepia and brown in the areas where two pieces meet to similuate dirt and rust. Hope all of that makes sense. I mainly just paint in the heat of things changing colors as I paint.

this looks amazing man, would love to see some close up pics especialy of that shield.
did you use a simuler process for the shield like you did for the armour?

Ok finally finished. I need to get some better pics done, but I had to pack it up this morning for my first miniature painting contest.

I have a bit of artistic background being in the animation industry, as well as some airbrushing experience when I was younger. Always been into art.
