Looking for advice on how to improve my painting. I thought painting warhammer miniatures would be a nice hobby that I could do while keepin an eye on my autistic son. I've been looking around the internet for painting tips but would love to hear others opinions.

For a first mini ever this is really good. I like what you did with the weathering and corrosion to the metals. The Warpstone orb is looking sharp. I personally dont have much to add, others with more skill than I might. But all I can say is you are on the right track.

If this is your first mini then you shouldn´t worry. All you need is to continue painting. The mini looks pretty good for a first mini

Another noob better than me. Great.

Kidding aside, lovely mini. Only criticism I can think of is that the base is a little plain. But, sandy wastes might be the look you were going for. A little bit of dead bush, maybe. Or perhaps a larger stone at some location. Just something to add a bit more detail. Since you're on the "cheap", just grabbing a handful of sandy debris from the curb is a great source of different size rocks, at least what I've got. Pick a few larger stones that fit, and away you go.

There's also a stray bit of green, in the top view on the base edge, near the middle. A contrasting color for the sides of the base is often what is done, typically just black. Helps frame the scene, rather than having everything all one color. Course, doesn't have to be that way, so go as you see fit.
