First mini, ever.

Since I\'m on a comp where the screen is rather dark right now, I can\'t really see the full amount of detail, so I\'ll wait with my vote till I get home.
What I can see is that your on the right track, already from the first mini! That is awesome! The reds could use a bit shading though... the sword I can barely see, so I\'ll wait with that
The cloak looks great! And the black boots got a small grey highlight as well, awesome
Finish the base and repost it..

Also, put the back and front togeather in one pic. You can make the pic 600 pixels wide, but as LONG as you want to, height.Doing two submissions of the same mini is bad...

in the last 3/4 weeks i\'ve been reading and reading and reading, almost so much I didn\'t know what to do with what I read since I read so many different conflicting ideas..
I\'m using a home made wet palette which means I can use thinned down colours, I also bought Kaples DVD and watched very carefully...
I think I need to read some guides about photography however and probably need to purchase some additional lamps and a back drop - also bases i\'ve no idea what to do except goblin green + flock haha.

Very neat work, Arma, your lines seem quite clean. And traditionally, red is a difficult colour to get right, and you\'ve got some good and even coverage with it.
I can see you did some highlighting and shading on the cloak, the shield, the weapon and the boot. But you need more on the armour. And here is where you are going to find red tricky. Remember to highlight red with orange, and not white.

As has been said you are of to a good start.
A couple of things. Paint coverage. A couple of places its a bit patchy. The gold especially.
Neatness. On the shield particularly you can see some red on the gold and vica versa. Clean this up and black line and it will improve the look by heaps.
The base. You shouldnt post a mini that isnt based. Most people will mark you down at least 1 point. Even with sand drybrushed brown you will score better. If you just want comments then post this as a wip. Get a photbucket account and link it. Some one will tell you how if you want.

@Modderrhu: I have to disagree, but that might just be my experience talking. I find red one of the easiest colours to highlight and shade. Stuff like white or black is by far the hardest, as you don\'t have much to work with in colour variations. Blue, green, red, pink, yellow (yellow can be tricky too though...) and the likes, are by far the easiest to work with
I can see now that you tried to shade the red, but it didn\'t work at all. You need more debth. Start out with a mix of black/scrab red instead, that will give you a dark base to work out from and alot more contrast. You can seriously not see you did all that work on the red
I still voted this an 8, painting 7, first timer (at amazing skill, cos I usually don\'t do this!) +2, base -1.
