First Post - Confrontation Painting

Hey everyone,

I lurked around the site for some time now and I finally am going to post something. Now that it\'s summer, I have some time to paint so I decided to try some new techniques on some Confrontation models. I tried blending although I don\'t feel the photos bring out the depth of color on the model. Here\'s the first model.

Good work here.
I see some really good points and some areas that can use a little work. Please don\'t take anything I say as hurtful. If I don\'t point out the few things I can offer suggestions on, then I don\'t feel like I\'m really helping you out.

1st off. Nice job on the base design. The feel of the base is very consistant with the Hybrid game. One thing that immediatly caught my eye is the rubble. There are a few small spots where the red of the tile is misplaced on the rubble and really detracts from an otherwise quality base. A secondary lighter brown highlight on the rubble (or an overall dark brown/black wash) would help also since the current color is so close to the same as the brown of his leggings.

The leggings look really nice. I think you\'ve achieved a nice earthy brown. The implication when I look at it is well worn dry leather, so if that\'s what you were going for... GREAT JOB! :)

The depth of color (reds and blues) doesn\'t translate very well in the picture, and I know how frustrating that can be. I can see some areas of really quality blending on the blue coat. My only suggestion is to keep your highlights on the upper most portion of the model. Keep in mind the direction the light is coming from when placing the highlights. A few of your highlights are placed as though light is shinning at him from the front, not the top. Adding visible depth to reds is ALWAYS a challenge. Try adding a touch of orange to your reds on the most extreme highlights.

Overall you have a nice clean model here. Keep at it and I have no doubt you\'ll be posting very high quality minis. I hope that some of the things I\'ve pointed out help. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have... good job and thanks for being brave enough to share your hard work with all of us.
:)
good luck!
