First Scratch Sculpt: Deamon Prince Rick

I decided to post this in hopes of getting in on the mini exchange sometime in the future.

Because I am not really a fan of the GW deamon prince model, I decided to sculpt my own. I based the guy off of the lead character from Splatterhouse, Rick.

Here is rick in video game form

And the concept art I came up with

This is the first pic I took of the basic form sculpted over a paper clip armature

Sorry about the bad lighting and fuzzyness. It was the first picture I took with a digital camera. He is standing next to a line trooper for scale.

Hi & welcome & what not..

Thats a pretty good start. I cant waitto see this move along & see where it goes.

On a sidenote I think you can still sign up for the exchange but you have to have something like 5 post & ship first.

Looks good, but i think everything needs more defined edges, everything is rounded off and to \'soft\' at the moment.

He looks very cool but two things
I think his appearance is a bit out of place. you could make him more chaos space marine related.
the greenstuf looks a bit rounded.
for the rest you did a great job.

Any advice on how to do this?

I find you can go back and forth on the edge of a greenstuffed part, pushing the thing slightly and pulling up and away from the model at the same time. It\'s really hard to explain, but you basically make the edge curl up a bit instead of curling down. Easier to hilight afterwards I find.

You can also use an Xacto knife to cut really nice sharp edges on stuff once the greenstuff is cured.

When you\'re sculpting you should be doing a mix of pushing and pulling on the material so it\'s not all soft and round, the putty will move around a bit as you work and you have to pull it back into the tight shapes to avoid it looking like a Play-Dough mini some times.

Keep in mind I\'m no expert sculptor, I can greenstuff the odd detail on a model when I\'m converting but the only \"scratch\" sculpting I\'ve done has been kinda disappointing.

I took the most badass sketch in the Mordheim rulebook, and it turned out looking exactly like Slick Devlan from Inquisitor. I hate that mini :p

I see what you mean about Slick Devlan. It looks like he is taking a crap while walking. Anyway, I gave rick this shoulder pad thingy,

but now am having trouble figuring out how it should be held on. Any suggestions would be welcome. Also I am going to fill the empty spaces around the GW deamon head with a skull motif.

Great Idea. He looks awesome for your first attempt at sculpting. I agree with Jericho about working the green stuff after it\'s hardened. An x-acto can be great for creating sharp edges, and also a small piece of medium/fine sandpaper can work wonders to smooth everything out. I also use an emery board (nail file) to create flat surfaces (like on your chainsaw where it\'s a hard object). Then follow that with some finer sandpaper.

TBH no, because i have never used any sculpting medium for other than filling gaps. But it seems other have given you some advice.

This is looking great, I like the way the skulls on the base look like the floaty skulls in the splatterhouse game too!

I cannot believe I said this, must have been stoned or something?

Wholly by happenstance I assure you, but it did come out alright.

Now some more pics;

There are still quite a few areas I am not happy with, such as the left hand and the back of the feet. Once I sort that out I will be giving another once over to fix anything I notice wrong and then he gets to sit around waiting to be painted, like the rest of the army.

I feel the same way about painting. I used to think I was pretty good, until I found this site.
