First time mini poster! Check it out.

Hey hey everyone!

I\'ve been around close to 2 years now and have throughly enjoyed all the wonderful art I\'ve seen here. I\'ve finally built up the courage to post one of my own.

I painted up the new Be\'lakor the Dark Master model released for the Storm of Chaos. I love playing with the Daemonic Legion army (and if you do to or want to know more, click my sig) and Daemonic minis are really just so much fun.

I have a thing with Red. I really like the dark rich moody red that goes from black to deep red. Unfortunately I hear that red doesn\'t do so well in pics (kind of my picture taking experience as well). Oh well. It was a blast to do. This was also the first time that I used cork sheets for rocks and I like the effect. Thanks to all those that helped me with photo editing to turn a truly dismal pic into one where you can see the model pretty well.

Enough blah blah. Check him out here and please tell me what you think. Please vote, leave a comment if you you\'d like. I hope to start posting more stuff as I get the pics taken. Thanks!!

Your red looks fine to me, voted and commented by the way. If I had done this mini I would probably taken the red a stage or two higher on the edges of some of the muscles but it is a taste thing and your Be\'lakor is very nice. :D

I understand about that \"getting your courage up to post a pic here.\" But I must say that if your work is this good, you have nothing to be afraid of. (except maybe Mike\'s hammer lol )

You might take just the tops of the muscles and layer on one more bright red highligh to really make it pop.

It looks like you have the cork base thing down pretty good too. I would add a bit of gel or pummice gel right at the seams to make them less noticable, but that is just a nit-pick.

Thanks very much for the comments! I\'m hearing quite a bit about the funky green base. It\'s kind of a perpetuation of an old problem. My Daemonic Legion was painted with that color of base and I did it just so it would match :|~ I have been trying to decide whether to redo some of the bases in a dark brown or dark green. I think I\'m leaning towards the dark green as the gravely stuff is brown already. Since the model is quite monochromatic a different color kind of helps add some contrast. Maybe I just don\'t need \"that\" much contrast. :)

I\'m noticing with my first model that if you really want it to stand out and grab someone by the eyelids, you\'ve really got to take the highlights up a level. IRL I like the look, but I can see how another level would help, especially with relying on a digi-pic to show off the model. I\'ve just never been a fan of highlighting all the way up to white, but yes, just a bit more here would help.

I think I\'ve heard of the pumice gel. You use it around the cracks where the cork comes together so it doesn\'t look like uniform thickness sheets right? Know where I could get some? I\'d like to try it out. Thanks again!

Liquitex and Golden both make a pumice gel. There is also a garnet gel that uses a fine sand. Very similar to what you have along the base.
