First try at OSL

Hi everyone,

Last night I painted my 2 AT STs, E-Web engineers and Darth Vader from Imperial Assault. Spent a good 5 hours for all of them from start to finish (priming had been done prior of course).

Vader was a real pain with the cloth. I just couldn't get any highlights done properly on the cape, they were all too bright. I applied some nuln oil in frustration to tone it down, but the grey layering wasn't dry enough so it all got pooled all over his cape making a huge mess... I ended repainting it black entirely and then doing a very light dry brush with some fixing afterwards to avoid chalkiness.

Once Vader was done, I though't I'd try some OSL for the 1st time in my life. Yeah I know, such an accomplishment :) I had no idea if it would turn ok, but I really wanted to try something new and make the mini pop.

Here are the results, which I am pretty happy with :) Maybe Sorastro would be proud

I then tried the same for the red light on the AT ST, looks cool (at least to me - might look like shait to you painting experts).

Here is the whole gang from last night :

I like the AT ST's OSL. It looks just about right to me, though maybe a little bit too dark.
Vader's got the highlights in the right place, but they seem a little bit too intense to my eye.
I'd suggest watching Jedi's light saber duels in the darkness to see what I mean.

Here it is, to make it easier.

EDIT: I just watched the clip, myself, and noticed that the armour reflects more than the materials do. Maybe add a touch of that to the mini?
