Don\'t get me wrong ;). They can be cool, it\'s just that you should be paid correctly since it takes so long to do. But that just my 2 Euro Cents ;).

Yup, the calculation (money paid)/(time spend) = more or less than flipping burgers at the MacDo. :D
Anyway, since these figures are one-offs I\'d say, use scale modelling or jewellery chain. You can use them straight away stiffening them with superglue.

P.s. Marineboyd, looking at your signature. Have a look at Ganesha at this page: http://www.tsofa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=116&start=0

Sorry if I sounded abrasive

Re-reading my post (after some much-needed sleep) I realize I might of offended some people. What I was trying to say was that I LOVED the original \"One-of-a-Kind\" mini concept put forth by these two talented individuals. I was, of course, joking about my needs. I\'ve been moding stuff for 25+ years (maybe I invented figure moding?), and I KNOW chains are very difficult. An example of what i was talking about: I play WM Cryx, but I hated their Satyx Raider models. I wanted to make my own, so I found a figure that had the look I wanted, then found a fig with the weapon (chain) I wanted. See below-

combo.jpg

The horns were just a bow I cut up and bent the way I wanted. Voila, the mini I wanted for Eight bucks and about an hours work. I\'ve done alot of greenstuff to, but would never attempt a chain. It\'s much easier to steal one from something else.

Up \'till six months ago I only painted minis I didn\'t give a S__t about. I wouldn\'t paint the ones I really liked. Why? Because I didn\'t want to ruin them with one of my lousy paintjobs. Then someone I had shown some of my mods to told me if I really wanted to learn how to paint there were great tutorials on the Reaper and Privateer press sites. I read, I learned, I got better (a little, anyway). The PP site lead me to this site, since many of the pics displayed there were linked to CMON. Wonder of wonders! A site dedicated to people who love minis! Not a Minis-combat site, not an RPG site, etc... just a bunch of people who didn\'t care what you played (or if you played), as long as the minis were cool! I\'ve probably picked up more techniques by studying the pics here then all the tutrials I read. This site isn\'t about painting, thats only part of it. It\'s about making the mini excellent, and that includes moding, scratchbuilt, conversions, and yes, basing! I came here to learn. If I wanted to go on handing my \"good\" minis to someone else to paint I wouldn\'t have come here. That was my point. I didn\'t mean to strike a nerve with anyone. I just think people should try learning ALL aspects of creating interesting minis, not just painting.

Disclaimers: 1) The above mini is a WIP, don\'t judge the paintjob please . Sad part is I probably will never finish it, so many minis, so little time. 2) I don\'t ACTUALLY think I invented moding, that was a joke. 3) I do not, nor ever will, desire minis of young women in fur bikinis, I..... ummmm... wait a sec. Seems my example\'s got one of them on. Oh well, I guess I\'m busted.:D:D:D

I think somebody is already working on it, but I might do a quick bit on that subject for another article I\'m planning to do ;).

That would be very cool. It\'s that fine-detail stuff that I can\'t figure out, like when someone does a necklace on a mini. How do you do that?!???

@ MarkusTay

Marksu, nobody\'s getting offended here. Like I said, I\'m not up to doing these conversions afa technique goes, I\'m just happy that Fish-Dog Workshop might have the time and inclination to do them. In the future... I\'d love to work on sculpting. More basic conversions I\'ll still do myself.

You are truly the linkmaster! That page is fantastic, and not just the Ganesha drawing. ...be looking there for inspiration. Btw, the Don Quixote goblin figure from one of your previous links:

He shows a finished blister pack for sale in the same thread, but doesn\'t answere emails on either of his addresses or from his website. Do you have any contact with the maker?

@ green stuff

Just a small tutorial? Yes, please!

@ Provoke_Me

So, this means that you\'ll start on the Ganesha, it\'s a go?

I guess they either do it like Ming-Hua suggested it : fine jewlers chains, or they do it from scratch in 2 passes (one plane of the chains then the other perpendicular one). I usually use a thin wire armature to make floating chains, but that tends to make them thick and chunky.

@Ming-Hua : how well does that chain + super-glue solution resist the mold making process?

Just to chime in on the chain thing, I use small real chain I got from an art store. Glues well and works nicely.

It\'s a good forum for learning about anatomy and figurative art. If you\'re interested you should really have a look at the other threads. I spend quite some time there reading up on artistic anatomy.
Here is another great forum for inspiration: http://www.conceptart.org/

I\'m afraid not. Perhaps you could drop a message in that thread over at planet figure.

That suggestion was for figures that don\'t have to go through that process.

When using real chain in a production figure you should fill up gaps with putty (allowing for the illusion of it being chain. As to superglue, it will likely desintegrate during the mouldmaking process and from what I understood it can affect the mould. Though experiences of different mouldmakers seem to vary here. Check with them first.

By the way, there has been a thread on making a \"chain\" before. I also suggested using the scoobidoo weaving technique on wire to make a chain. Well, something that looks like a chain anyways. :)

Bye, Ming-Hua
