Fixing ametal model's surface imperfections

I have a model i've just stripped and remade. However i've noticed what looks like pitting in the surface of my model. Is there a good way of filling these tiny pits without ruining the detail around it?

I would perhaps try using Milliput mixed with water (make it a paint-like consistency)
