Fixing broken spear

I\'ve been working on this guy:

Of course, just as I get him almost finished, the spear bent. I pretty much can\'t bend it back to normal without breaking it off. I think it\'s brass rod time, but I\'ve never done this before. I need to save the original top piece. Here\'s what I was thinking of doing:

I have brass rod that\'s a bit smaller than the spear diameter (if I use brass rod closer to the actual diameter, I can\'t drill a proper hole into the spearhead). I was going to cut the spear off on both sides at the hand. Drill holes through the hand and into the spearhead the size of the brass rod. Cut the rod in two pieces, one the length of the bottom piece, one the length of the top piece, leaving a little extra room for rod to go into the spearhead and into the the hand.

Take this brass rod and cover it in green stuff or other epoxy putty and roll it until it\'s the thickness of the original spear, leaving the ends the original size to fit into the hands and spearhead. Let dry. Glue, prime and paint.

Anyone ever done this? Anyone know a better way?

Due to the limitations of the casting process they have to cast pole\'s and such much thicker than they would really be. If I were you I\'d just use the brass rod with no putty on it. If you want a grained look, take a fine toothed saw or a medium tooth file and simply drag it down the rod with the rod and the tool perpendicular to each other. Gives a nice neat fine grained wood look.

Yep pretty much go with what Shawn said.
Personally I\'d start with a much smaller drill and increase the hole a stage at a time. Less chance of wrecking the hand, which I\'ve done in the past.

Can\'t argue with what either mike or shawn has said - but you might want to use a pin vise to do the drilling.
