Flaming Tikis WIP and random ramblings spot

Hmm, I've toyed with the idea of getting a 3d printer, but usually come up against 'I don't have time for another new hobby'. I'm reading your experience as a cautionary (if enjoyable) tale! Looks like you've been working on lots of really cool things though.

I like your progress on the tech priest, but I'm blown away by that base - really fantastic chipping and weathering there!

Great work on that Tech Priest Engineer. Love the subtle differences between the weathered metals.

Thank you guys, your commentary helps me keep at it!
@khavor, buying the printer has proven to be the most enjoyable reason not to put brush to paint and minis yet! Seriously though, best decision I have made hobby wise in a while. I tell you the truth though: if you are afraid you don't have for a new hobby angle, then maybe not. It depends on you. I can get a bit obsessive about learning something new. Well. that and I've had nothing but time on my hands.
All the printing aside, I have actually been painting!
The Tech Priest may be done! Gonna look at carefully tomorrow and decide.

This guy is huge, the Vonindod from Archvillian Games. I had a couple "failed print" parts while printing him- that's the parts that made the techno priest base. Speaking of bases, this dudes is cool. He and the base are still in progress.

On the lighter side, I have this Dwarf Pirate and Senliah The_Seductress from Heroes Infinite. The girl has a cool terrain style piece to live in, it's all done- no pics 'till she is too though.

Aww geezz, I almost forgot this Iron man. He is from one of those "blind bags" thingies. I have a couple handfuls of them and felt he would work as a tester for some techniques not previously attempted. He has oil and enamel washes, some regular paints and oil paints. You know a "paint test dummy".

-That's it for now. Thanks for stopping in. C&C more than welcome.

Really nice work! That big guy (voinondod) looks like it turned out nice and the painting is looking really good on it. Liking that dwarf and belly dancer as well!

Whole lot a Print 'n Prime going on in the studio these days. I've been debating just how much to share as most of them aren't technically WIPs, more like additions to my stash, pile of shame I believe it's referred to. I think I'll take advantage of the blog space provided here to document my printing foibles. I have actually been slingin a little paint, I have couple figs about 80-90% done. I'll post 'em up when they are done. I need to concentrate on them before hitting the next two.
I received a really cool invite from Dexter to join in on the base that St. Toad made and Gorb Painted a fig for (Dex did a fig as well as making a tree). I got the base in the mail the other day and have printed off a fig for it. He she is in the primed state. the other fig i'm starting on is freaking huge, hard to call him a mini. I'll try to get a pic later on, he won't fit in my photo booth!

EDIT! I noticed her broken fingers upon looking at this photo, and the missing lower horn on her bow. GRR, the bow-eh, could live with it.The fingers not so much. I cut her hand off and was cutting the hand off of an earlier failed print of her. Shot across out into never to be found land. Well, as soon as I print another one of her, I'll step on the lost hand! In the mean time, my Fairy King actually did fit in the photo booth, barely!

Nice work so far, those prints look quite clean compared to others I've seen. The biggest take away for me was Tim the Enchanter, I recognised him before reading the text, Awesome!

Wow! The fairy king is a beast. I'm looking forward to see more of it.
And I'm really excited to see how the centaur's mini will fit on the base, looks like it's a really good match.

Okay, so one little side distraction completed-well a tiny touch up to do after photo inspection. This is a fig i printed up, I think he came from thingaverse. Now I'm kinda 40K deficient, knowledge-wise. I believe this guy is Khorne, not sure beyond that, if you know: please enlighten me. I had a little fun with the backgrounds but all in all plain black seems the best to me. What do you guys think?
Gonna try to knock out the Vonindod tonight, he's close.

Love the dark grimy reds in this, plus the glowy eyes are a great touch. He looks awesome in front of that background.

Thanks Guys. Been a flurry of activity here as of late. I have a bunch of really cool stuff coming up. Here's a couple photos of my main painting focus at the moment. The centaur has been a pain. One fail after another mostly on the print side. I finally got her all straightened out and have started the paint process. The other project is my "space Karen", she has a real a cool set of wings that I forgot to photograph, next time.

I agree, some fabulous prints going on here. I'm sure someone else has already asked but: what printer have you got? How much extra fine tuning did you do? Are you happy with it?

Thanks Eki and Gorb. BTW Gorb, some super cool sculpting you have happening as of late, I love the Geiger Aliens.
I have the Epax X1-n, I'm about to upgrade it to a -dj model, the difference being the light array. I am quite happy with the decision to go with the Epax.Of course the machine is only a couple/few months old and now all the rage is mono screen models, which cut the print times in half with no loss of quality. That would be nice. I keep thinking that I'll document my ever growing collection of printed models, man, I have a lot. A whole lot of 40k starting to join the collection. You guys showing interest is adding fuel to that fire. I'll have to start putting them in the photo booth and posting them to the blog space here on CMON.

Well I've been "silent" for a moment but I've been busy. I had been working on the Centaur for the "group base", then I got sidetracked with a Patreon paint contest and had to finish a project (Archvillain Games Frostburn Giant Queen) that had a deadline. I'm not the best with deadlines, I got it done and submitted with like 8 minutes to spare! My pictures could've came out better (had I left time to take more). I of course knocked her over and broke her owls off as I photographed, so the pics I had would have to suffice. I've fixed her and perhaps I'll take better photos. I do have another project that only needs a tiny amount of work to finish up before returning to the Cen. I should be posting up pics later on of that project (Heroes Infinite Wendigo)and I'll throw the Cen into the photo booth as well.

Shame about the owls breaking, always sad when that happens.
I love the paintjob, especially the blues on the cloth. And yeah, that base is awesome!
