Flow Medium and Retarder...

I have done some reading on Flow Release and Retarding agents online, and am all ready to give it a go, but one thing that is omitted from the info I have found is the toxicity of the agents.

Why does the toxicity of the agents matter? because I am a brush licker. I always roll a point on my brushes with my tongue, and don\'t care to get poisoned because of it.

I recently bought (and am now too return likely) Golden Additives Acrylic Flow Release and Retarder. The Flow Release has a big warning on the label, and I called the company, and the guy I talked with said that it can cause a \"burning sensation local to where it contacts me\" including bare skin, like my hands (I haven\'t tested this yet, don\'t plan on it either).

Does anyone have any good suggestions for these agents that are safe to go in my mouth? I am using Citadel paints at this time exclusively, if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Well, first of all, lemme say I prefer Liqutex arcylic accessories. I know for a fact they\'re pretty non-toxic. Plus, the flow aid come in a small bottle but it must be diluted 1/20! I only have to put a drop in a vallejo bottle full of water. I guess it just pays to look for that little non-toxic FDA sticker on the labels. :p

In general, I\'d say its just best to stop licking your brushes!

Really. :D

I actually tried licking my brushes after I saw somebody else doing it, but I just found it easier to dip in my water and drag across a paper towel into a point.

As for toxicity, just read the labels. If it isn\'t certified non-toxic, then it\'s probably a bad idea to put it in your mouth. Heck, even if it is non-toxic it\'s probably a bad idea.

If you absolutely insist on licking brushes, then I\'d say go to your local pharmacy and pick up some medicine flavoring. :) I love cough syrup ever since I found out it comes in grape flavor!

Yummy!!! :D:D:D

Wasn\'t Elvis addicted to cough syrup? ???
But licking brushes is one of the hallmarks of a Mini painter. (That and multi coloured stripes on the tongue and thumbnails.)

First I would dab paint off on my thumb, then I started using my nails as \"testbeds\" for practicing ideas, then some Goths I knew started getting me to paint their nails.....

Good way to make 20 bucks for a few minutes work.

BTW I got the Liquitex stuff, but have been too busy building/resculpting my Daemon Prince to put a brush to anything.

well, i use winsor and Newton flow extender and Cryla acrylic medium gel....but still lick my brushes...I have this cunning feeling that this might have caused my sprouting of metal in my face and patches of ink under my skin, but you never know.......;) I\'ve found that if the material is irritating you(meaning: you\'re tongue get\'s all numb), it\'s better not to lick your brushes when you use the paint/medium. I found Vallejo does that, and use a tissue when painting with it, but lick my brushes to my heart\'s delight when I\'m using Citadel paints....:)
