Flustered by feathers

How do you paint wings with feathers?

I\'m working of the Reaper Deva Angel and the wings are giving me a ton of trouble. I can\'t seem to keep the detail from being lost.

Help?

Dry brushing also works great on wings. just start with a dark shade of whatever color you want the feathers to be then drybrush lighter and lighter shades each time isolating it closer to the tip of the feather

When doing drybrushing, I recommend doing a \"wetbrush\" for the first couple layers, then a more traditional drybrush for the hilights.

Wetbrushing is like drybrushing, but you use 1-2 strokes with slightly watered down paint on your brush. Go ahead and wipe some of it off first. This technique takes some getting used to, but it can keep the texture from getting grainy.

For those hilights, be sure to wipe damn near every bit of paint off that brush first, I never wipe enough paint off and usually end up regretting it.

Thanks for the tips.

Now back to these wings. Hopefully I\'ll have a new camera soon and can post the results.
