flying through the air...

I had another of my dumb ideas... along the lines of my previous dumb ideas.

I know people like tinkering with effects in the construction of their minis, some even incorporating LED lights and fibre optics... Well... Has anyone ever tried to make an eldar jet bike fly???

I\'m thinking something like this...

but with a jet bike in the middle... I think it\'d be way cooler than the clear plastic thing up its bottom that there usually is.

I\'ll get my coat

That IS a sweet idea, but have you EVER tried to balance one of those things??? lol

That would be your answer :p But i\'d be interested to see how it would work out!

Here\'s a past discussion on the topic:

In essence, it comes down to guidewires of some kind to stabilize it -- at which point, you\'re almost better off just using the standard \"flying\" tricks (chains/capes/banners/rocket exhaust/etc. touching the ground).

well, so far it\'s just guessing... I didn\'t read anywhere that someone has actually tried it... I\'m sure it can be prevented from tipping over by adjusting the centre of gravity and giving it some weight lower down.

After reading the thread i\'m not so sure it won\'t work. I think if you DID balance and weight the model it *should* theoretically \"fly\". Shaun RL had a good point with the donut thing, not sure it would be the easiest to balance, although it IS symetrical and that would be important.

I\'ve got a similar thing, only its a clock instead of a globe. The damn things starts getting a spin to it, and I\'m constantly stopping it from spinning. But, you might be able to do something.

I tried to pull up the one I have, but it appears its been discontinued.

In the end, I think it won\'t look good. To be properly balanced would require so much junk on the bottom that it\'ll wind up looking like a crashed jet bike on a base.

The Warp engines need more Dilithium to stabilize the tachyon emmission Cap\'n!

The problem would be it constantly slipping off and chipping the paint :/

You could always try building a small antigravitic motor to go inside it - of course, you would first need to an expert in nano technology, and universal field theory... lol

Or just get some of that solid air stuff (search it up in the forums), cut it to the shape of the vehicle/engines and mount. Should look sufficiently heat-haze-y (yes, that\'s a word) to simulate antigrav engines.

EDIT: Aerogel\'s the stuff.

How about wrapping it on coiled wire run a current through it and the thing will hover.

Always amazed me that did.

EDIT: There is a specfic minimum for the number of coils before it has a great enough magnetic field to counter the earth\'s gravity.

Also thought you should know it gets extremely hot so it\'ll probably hover, then melt into non existance, but hey, you\'ll have 30seconds of fully hovering joy
