Hi I was wondering how would you go about making a horn out of green stuff. I have the basic concept but how would you make that little lump of skin that the horn is coming out of you know what i mean it looks like the horn has just came through the skin. I know i sound like an ass:moon: but i need to know:idea:

1st you make your horn (rolling putty, tapering one end, bending and letting dry). Then attach it to your skin (not your skin, your models skin). Once that is done make a thin roll of GS around the bottom of the horn, make the skin around the horns and the normal skin smooth. Then when that is dry take a sharp x-acto and cut some dips around the horn to make it look like the horn is coming out of the skin.

Wow, I sound like a pro... :(

Also, a brush with a bit of water on it does wonders to smooth things down when the GS is halfway cured. Only problem is, it gets too smooth that other GS will not stick to it, so leave it if you need to add or you\'ll have to scratch at it with a brass brush (which should be kept around for stripping minis). :p

things to add...

i made horns for my goblin warlord...actually it\'s for the mongolian hat with horns..method\'s is like what Chrispy and Mastroofmayhem mentioned except:

i use plenty of water or else it\'ll stick to everything...irritating...
i don\'t allow it to dry totally...when it is shaped, i allowed the water to dry then stick it to the \"hat\"...and when the greenstuff is about to dry, i sculpt it with a knife to draw the lines and to shape it further...easier to manage

What you could try is drill a little hole where you want the horn to be placed, then glue inside a little bit of iron wire.
Two advantages:
You can have a first glance at the suitable length
You have a strong structure to grow your horn on with your GS. You can first put a small amount of GS, let it dry, then put a thin layer you can model exactly you want, without destroying the whole horn.

Concerning the way it should look like it comes out of the skin, you should have a look at Dirz mini or any one which has, wel, horns sticking out of the skin. Basically you have two ways to do it, making a little doughnut around the base, whiwh is the way real horns are, or tear some flesh on the base of it, like the horn grew and pulled the skin as it grew.

yeah, i agree the way i use is sticking some wire and using it as an armature. also, try twisting for a, well, twisty look
