so my 18 month old got sent home from daycare today for get this biting antoher kid. in fact he bit two kids twice today so their new policy as of last friday is after two bites your little nipper goes home.

HE\'S FLIPPIN 18 MONTHS OLD!!!! when i found out a kid last week got sent home because he bit my son i flipped, these are babies....biting is a natural thing. now because of this crap i have to leave work and i am out of days at work so i am being docked $200. i distinctly remember my other son when he was two having a biting problem, he bit the babysitter and 4 kids in one day and he never got sent home at his other sitters. i mean come on man, if my kid was biting every day or 8 times in a row thats one damn thing.....but twice!!!! he has only bit 2 other times in 6 months.

i dont know ...am i insane or is this a bit excessive?

Lol, i bit someone when I was about 6, because we had coatpegs with differnt pictures on and this geezer was hogging the one with a pic of a donkey on so I gave him a nip. In the end I got rewarded because I told the truth about doing it... thats the way things should be (well.. i surpose an 18mnth old wouldnt need to explain too much...) :D


Basically, its a stupid policy..

lol, he was 6 too, but i posted that to show that these things can be sorted out without excluding anyone, especially at a young ange :)

Is he rabid? If he\'s rabid, I could understand him being sent home. Especially for multiple bites.

Otherwise, it\'s a stupid policy.

I\'m not sure as a parent that I\'d be happy picking up my toddler from day care and find bite marks all over him.
Especially if they all came from one other kid....bad for business to let him stay.

First though, I\'d put you little guy in some time out area to sort himself out.

Why is he biting? One toy they all want? Other kid getting all the teacher time?

At that age, it is hard to communicate with them. You gotta play detective.

Have to say I\'m thankful we have never had this problem with out daughter. She stopped the \'tasting everything\' thing around 10 months. Possibly due to her never being given a soother.

I\'m on the fence regarding the policy. As Airhead noted, if I was the parent of the kid getting bit I would want something done, especially if it\'s a repeat offence. I would think they could some up with something better then sending the kid home.

Good God....small children biting, ive never heard of that happening!
Next thing you know social services will be insisting he visit a \"happyness counciler\" and the papers will be running the story as \"Baby B(iter)\"

Its all rubbish, IMO the daycare center you use is crapping out on thier job, sending him home for something that unimportant mean they have one less kid to look after.

Hell I\'m 23 and I still bite people on occasion, it is a perfectally acceptable way of communicating your displeasure at someone elses actions:yes:

I\'m with Airhead, there is a reason for biting and the sitters need to address the problem..also what kind of daycare doesn\'t understand babys this age do not have control over their emotions as older children would and react in the most simple way, e.g. biting

lookl both my kids have been bit, prodded, punched, slapped and every other thing under the sun at daycares. this crap happens. my son bit one kid, then 10 minutes later another. all because he wanted a toy. he has bit people a total of 8 times now over the last 6 months..... this is excessive imho(kicking him out of daycare). hell the other day the same boy who ewan bit, bit him and punched him in the face. when they told me, i saw a huge scratch on his face and immediately asked, \"well tell me he got atleast one good shot in.\" we all laughed and left it at that.

on a side note we have decided to take him to a daycare that our other son used to go to and just suck up paying an extra $200 a month for daycare. at least we know that these people wont send him home for biting another kid....

Sounds like you may have made the best decision.
I remember a few \'Incident Reports\' way back when my girls were in day care. Usually similar things. But to have this on-going sounds like someone at the day care is not doing their job. More like \"Pile all the little guys in the play pen and go take care of something else....\"

One or two bites is pretty normal. If it becomes more than that then it needs to be delt with.

My youngest son went through a biting period - you know who helped us out? His DAYCARE centre.

This is extremely weak on the part of the daycare serice.

Stupid question because I don\'t recall that timeframe of my own life too well.....when is teething? Also after teething, doesn\'t biting often after teething mean a probable problem with the teeth as they came in?

And yeah, everything ends up in a kids mouth. Better another kid that say the crayons, lego blocks, etc.

Or has all children turned into cannibals and/or zombies lately? j/k

Teething starts at about 6 months and goes until after they are 2. It takes forever for all those teeth to come in.
