All the studio staff earn crappy money, there is a distinct lack of Bentley Continentals in the car park. GW can do that because it\'s a cool (ish) job.

Why do you think Razza ebay\'s his mini\'s. Apart from the stupendous end price.

(quietly awaiting fildunn\'s responce....)

Most companies have policies not to allow their employees to publicly discuss their salaries.

I know the last company I worked for, discussing my salary was terms for dismissal.

Saying so, Im guess the old guard at GW do pretty well, while the newer group of younger sculptors earn less.

And we would know this exactly how?

Sometimes young sir you do ask some questions which are really badly phrased or without a great deal of pre-thought.

i actually asked this question to a gw staffer and he told me what the \'evy metal team got paid, and sculpting team made, and i know that the sculpting team (i\'m pretty sure if i remember) got a lot more then the painters!

Back when I was a red-shirt (many years ago when this forum was just fields) I got to discover what Mike McVey earned. He was the \'man\' at the time and one of the higher earners in Eavy Metal. His wages were pants!

The games developers earned more, I had a mate that lived in the Games Workshop House (they used to have a house in Nottingham), he worked in retail development and he earned more than the developers. His wages were \'ok\' not great.

Unless things have changed drastically in the years since I left, I\'d be surprised...I couldn\'t support my family & current standard of living. Money isn\'t everything but you still have to pay the bills.

In a similar sort of thing I had a friend apply for a job at Lucasfilm (Great almost collectable postcard style rejection letter BTW....) and I always thought that as sort of industry leaders Lucasfilm would pay top bucks. At the time they paid roughly 20% less then similar studios. I was kind of shocked till my buddy reminded me \"Dude... I would pay THEM to get to work on some of those projects!\". Same kind of thing I guess.

Money isn\'t everything. Like Mr. Burns said \"I would gladly give up all my money for just a little more of it.\".

On second though, money rules!

ever wondered why they stopped having a huge turn around in painters, they started paying them more.
compaired to other retail chains they earn roughly the going rate for similar jobs.
The more people in the market are prepared to fill a role the less a company can offer, skills in demand can all of a sudden pay shite a few years down the line due to an over abundance of skilled workers a few years down the line (as well as companies getting in cheaper labour from overseas to drive down wages.)

I remember probably about 6 years ago, talking to a GW staff member who was gona join the \'eavy metal team and i was asking about the salary and he said they only got paid for three day weeks, i dont know for certain what that was for, whether it was because he was gona be a junior or part time or something. But i mean he had collected a few GD trophies. In the end he didnt join stayed a staffer for a few months, got disqualified for entering the following years GD and then left the company to work elsewhere and concentrate on commission work. Think his Space Wolves won in like 2000 or some similar time.

The pay system has probably been shuffled and is completely different no doubt lol

reasonable pay is SO relative anyway

Rent and bills are not though.
aye they are. have you seen the rent in london?!

Last time I looked GW is in Nottingham, not docklands or kensington. But I get your point.

lol Donga :)

im sure we\'ve been here a few times but bear this in mind..... the Eavy metal team has 2 ten year vets, a couple of 5 year vets and a couple more really close.......if it was that bad the turnover would be shocking! the chances are that for those that knew how it was a few years back its probably very different :)
