Forgeworld Casts?

Hey All,

I have only had experience with one forge world model thus far, the Slaanesh Keeper of Secrets model I think is the name of it. Anyway the greater demon of slaanesh.

I have been cleaning it but it seems like there are TONS of mold lines and casting issues. I\'m having to milliput over a lot of imperfections to try and get a smooth surface.

Is this typical of Forgeworld stuff? Or atypical?

Any assistance would be helpful. I want to get started painting it soon but I still have many hours of cleaning ahead of me.

Sadly it is not atypical.
On some of the larger casts, such as deamons, bubbles and defects are more pronounced.

I had a similar problem on a squad of Cadians and a Commissar, loads of imperfections!

Forgeworld\'s stuff always need a lot of work to prep...
bubbles, mouldlines, and poor fits have always been an issue, especially with the tanks and large figures...
the busts are usually nice and easy to work with, but the rest are a bitch...
well worth it in the end though, as the sculpts are almost all pretty spectacular...

Forgeworld models are complete awesomeness in my eyes. There are a few that I don\'t like but I love most of them. But their casts are less than perfect and in general less-than-average compared to other companies casing in resin(at least compared to those I\'ve bought from).

Alrighty well good to know.

I\'ve been prepping the Keeper of Secrets in between other mini projects so I\'m just doing a little at a time. I am also doing major conversion work on it. Once I\'m done with my current project I\'ll sit down and finish the prepwork. It\'s just sad to me. Such great sculpting and such horrid casting.

Depends, FW mostly seems to have quite crap quality control or casting levels of quality compared to alot of resin models from other companies, that is what I have found anyway.

I just order from warhammer world and if I get them on the day I check them over and if they dont meet up to standards I ask for another set

I always chirp in with the same comments when these types of threads come up...

1. a) My experience with Forgeworld has been pretty great. Few problems, and 1. b) prompt service whenever anything has come up. Free product express shipped to my door and no additional cost or need to return the old defective stuff.

2. Everyone that I know IRL who has had casting problems with Forgeworld has received the same good service that I have. For example: a brand new Greater Demon of Nurgle shipped out because the first one had a broken tongue and/or horns.

3. As you have already read, the quality of the casts isn\'t always very consistent (I\'ve had small stuff like track guards or Aeronautica planes with problems, but have had the entire 10\" tall Abbadon the Despoiler model have absolutely zero mould lines or surface defects of any kind) and so one of the things you should expect with Forgeworld is a chance of delays... but in the end you usually get freebies so in my eyes it works out all right.

Yep, basically, shit does happen, and if it does, you could do worse than complain to FW, as they usually will replace the faulty item. Only time that\'s not really an option is if you\'re running late on an comp entry, but whose fault is that? Still your best bet is having a GW flagstore in your vicinity (that can order FW stuff postage free), or going to FW\'s Games Day booth to make your purchase. That way, you can just step a few feet off, check your items, and have them replaced if something does happen to be way off.

Although they do send replacements the initial processing times can take a long time which doesn\'t help when you are doing a commission for someone only to await for a replacement due to some questionable casts. I\'ve had lots of experiences with ordering from FW. Some good and some bad but it always turns out well in the end. But when all is said and done we are hooked

So I should email FW and ask them for a new casting of keeper of secrets? Everything on that mini I\'ve looked at so far is really jacked up.

If you could send them photos of the miscast areas it might help resolve things quickly. When I have problems I send them photos so they know exactly what I\'m talking about and they seem to appreciate it.

If you\'ve fixed the vast majority of the problem spots already I don\'t know if they\'ll send a new one but if there\'s still a ton of work left for you to do they might help you out.

it shouldnt be. i have bought many other companies that have good q.c. and had no probs. some of the fw stuff i have bought has been good, but most not, some absolutely awful. they are good at replacing though ime

If you got a really crap cast that requires above normal prep time then go for it, you pay for quality.

So far prep time has taken at least 2 hours including patching of some areas. I\'ve only tackled the torso and head of the Keeper of Secrets. I have yet to tackle the arms and tendrils.

don\'t FW have a quality departement?!? I never had any problem with FW cast so far, but ive only bought smaller minis from them so far. seriously, for that price you pay for their stuff its kinda crappy that they apparently quite often are poor casted.

I read somewhere that the problem is that FW don\'t cast all of their stock themselves - some of it is outsourced and that I think is where some of the poorer casts come from. Like most people I\'ve had a mixture of experiences. Personally the limited edition items and smaller mini\'s seem to have less imperfections than the larger ones. I\'ve recently received a Dreadnought arm and to be honest the actual quality of the thing is almost on par with plastic.
