Forgeworld Valkyrie

Hi all,

This is my first submission to CMON, my first large resin piece and my first flyer. I\'m hoping to get some honest feedback on this model. I realize now that the photos are a bit washed out; I\'ll have to work on that in the future. If the photos are too poor let me know and I\'ll try to upload some better shots.

Check it out and vote here:

Thanks for your input! Any questions on technique, etc. feel free to ask.

Nice work

Great model. I love the paint scheme. Very real. The weathering and the oil stains are great.

The nose art is great as well.

The one thing I don\'t like is the white engines. They don\'t seem to fit in with the rest of the model.

Very good start here! Love the bee!

One thing, tho\'. The photo isn\'t the best. If you made a light box and got rid of the shadows you\'d probably get at least 1 point higher.

Hiya, and welcome to the forums!

What a fantastic first submission too! The Valkyre has been painted very realisticly. Agree with liz, better pictures would help (although I know from experience that these large models are not the easiest to photograph!).

Would like to see more stuff from you!

Ahh, guess you can forget the post I sent you about posting it in the discuss submissions board.
Like I already said the realism is great, I love the weathering. I disagree about the engines, I like the way it breaks up the overall scheme.
On a side issue, as I already said, I think it\'s a disgrace that the forgeworld stuff should have casting defects when its so expensive, If I had paid for it, (maybe you didn\'t?) I would have sent it back.:cussing:

Yeah, one thats gotten me lately is the land raider/rhino extra armour kits and chapter doors.

None of them fit onto tanks, none of them fit together, and none of them line up/are complete/arent covered in mold crap/have holes in etc etc etc

Im going to be asking for a discount if the next lot of stuff that turns up has ANY problems with it, I dont see why they should charge me a bomb for this stuff, then say, oh, youll need to *trim*(read, carve the beejesus out of) to fit, and possibly fill (read, remake with green stuff, and pack out 2mm gaps in armour plates) this kit.

Sure, you wanna start sending me free green stuff, glue, tools, and time, and Ill pay that price, otherwise, here I come bitches, and I am not happy.

Sorry for hijacking your post callhan, I voted on your valkyre, its a nice bit of work, loving the finish, and the bee looks bad ass, its just the kind of thing that games workshop dont do, that totally makes a mini complete.

resins a bitch but forgeworld are actually very nice about it just tell them what you\'ve got sucks and they glady send you nice new good ones..Have done this several times..I think the problem a lot of time is resin itself is so unpredictable and warps easy as well as being covered in flash...They are getting better but their quality control is particularly lacking especially when they can send a replacement that is perfect straight away so save the hassle and just send the good one straight away..

the submission...I love it have painted three of these myself and they are a bitch this is a ctacking job and the weathering is spot on..The white engines work for me bt agree about the pics get a neutral background sorted diffuse thelight (or just angle to reduce shadows) and take a few full model shots and you will increase your scores..
great work though and I look forward to seeing more.....

Yeah, I dont see why I should have to ring them up and do it, costs for me to ring, its an international call, and Im not gonna see that again, especially when, like you said, they could have just sent me a good one in the first place.

I mean, someone has to pack them into those silly plastic bags and boxes, so they have to be able to see if somethings had it or not.

Mind, I did get a sentinal sprue in a space marine tank box once.

Missing a weapons sprue for the storm bolters etc, but Ive got a nice sentinal.

Well, thanks for all the real positive feedback everyone, even if my pictures aren\'t too great. I was afraid this wasn\'t going to be up to snuff with some of the dazzling stuff I\'ve seen here. I still may try to post some better shots in the near future.

In terms of the casting quality, to be honest, I probably should have sent this model back to Forgeworld. The fuselage halves were badly mismatched (2-3mm off from each other plus bad warping on the bottom when I got the two halves joined), plus I think I was either missing two pieces that join the main engines with the fan intakes, or they packaged the wrong particular pieces. Anyway, I still managed to muddle my way through and I\'m pretty happy the way it turned out. In the future though I will contact them if I have more casts as bad as this one. (I wonder if they sold me a kit someone else returned...)

For my next project(s) I will be building a Forgeworld Macharius tank that I\'m going to try and sell when it\'s finished, as well as start trying to change the way I paint and incorporate some more artisty techniques like lighting and NMM with some smaller minis. I\'m scared to death though that any lighting and/or NMM will come out looking like mud, but I guess I have to try in order to get better. I am also (slowly) working on an Elysian drop troop army to go with my spiffy Valkyrie. I\'ll try to post some pics of them not too far down the road.

Your attitude is spot on! If you don\'t try you will never get better!

Thought I could paint until I joined here! My painting has came on leaps and bounds with the tips and advice, although my painting time has been eaten away with these bloody addictive forums!

Very well painted. I think you have reached a high degree of realism with your color choise and weathering. I like the different color of the engines eventhough they are a little clean compared to the fuselage. White is not the best camoflage but it looks good breaking up the color of the rest of the mini.
