Forgeworld weathering pigments

I was told they are rebranded vallejo powders, which according to a review posted at MIG (of course), shows that vallejo pigments, are not as fine as the MIGs..

whether this is true or makes any difference, not sure.

How much out of curiosity?

Other than pastels which you can grind down yourself you can get earth pigments from some art shops if you want to compare prices.

I\'ve payed £2.70 for MIG ones that are much bigger. They last forever too.

I was dubious to start with, now they are expensive

Anyone who wants to compare prices might want to check Kama or Kremer (US site here).

Many of the cheaper pigments in Kremer are about £2.50 for100g! Prices look like they might be similar on Kama although the smallest amounts they sell might be by volume (4 fl oz) and not by mass.

It may be cheaper but then there\'s postage, MIG is £2.70 from my local railway/scale model shop. I hide there when my wife is \'shopping\' (looking at the same shite in different shops) so convenience is a big motivator

Yeah, there\'s no denying the handiness of local availability, although many people do already order MIG pigments online.

But 100g is a heck of a lot of pigment in many cases (different volumes for different pigments) and a few friends could go in together on a big order to split the cost of shipping.

And while they\'re ordering from Kremer anyway they could consider getting some Scotchlite™ S 22 - glass microballoons - €5.47 for 100g. Since it\'s so light this is a heck of a lot in terms of volume, a lifetime supply for any single modeller and possibly any two.

...

Almost all hobby stuff - made for us or repackaged, like with the various packs of GS available from different suppliers - is expensive compared to alternatives. Paints, glues, primers, pigments, putties, masking agents, you name it, the hobby version is usually more expensive, sometimes a lot more as here.

In paints, for the same price as a single pot of GW you could buy a 75ml tube of artists\' acrylic... and that\'s just the beginning, \'cause when thinned to the same consistency it would make maybe 20 times more paint!
